Breast Lump Biopsy

Breast Lump Biopsy

Breast disease is a disease that most women will suffer from. It is difficult to completely avoid breast disease. We can only try our best to prevent the occurrence of breast disease. Breast lumps will make the breast feel like lumps, and the patient will feel very painful. If breast lumps are not treated in time, it is easy to cause breast cancer. Therefore, breast lumps should be checked in the hospital in time. So how is the breast lump biopsy checked?

Breast diseases often have diverse pathological tissues. Physical examination and color Doppler ultrasound may show small nodules and low-echo masses, many of which may have the potential for malignant changes. Conventional breast examinations can only be used as a preliminary method of diagnosis. If malignancy is suspected or multiple lesions occur simultaneously, more accurate examinations are needed to determine the treatment plan.

Among the examination methods for breast disease, breast fine needle aspiration cytology and breast puncture biopsy are two diagnostic methods with high accuracy. Fine needle aspiration cytology is more effective in examining lesions with mainly liquid components or severe necrotic areas, while puncture biopsy is mainly used for the examination of solid lesions.

Breast biopsy time

Generally, biopsy is performed one day before surgery to remove the biopsy tissue from the breast lump for examination, which can save the surgical time for intraoperative biopsy.

Target Group

Space-occupying lesions that have been confirmed by imaging but cannot be removed;

Those who did not undergo biopsy or whose biopsy was unsuccessful;

Suspected metastatic tumors need to be diagnosed;

Suspected benign space-occupying lesions require histological confirmation.

Biopsy Procedure

The doctor uses color ultrasound to locate suspicious lesions in the breast, then quickly inserts the biopsy needle into the edge of the lesion through the guide needle, pulls up the needle plug and quickly inserts the needle into the lesion, and quickly pulls it out after the lesion is removed.

Each lesion was sampled 3 to 4 times. The specimens were fixed in formalin.

Can a biopsy cause breast cancer to metastasize?

This is nothing to worry about. The hollow needle used for breast puncture biopsy has a protective sheath on the outer layer. When the needle is removed, the tumor tissue can be sealed inside the needle core to prevent the tumor from implanting and metastasizing.

On the other hand, various stimuli to the tumor, including general mechanical compression and surgery, can cause tumor cells to fall off and enter the blood circulation, but this does not necessarily lead to metastasis because the body's immune system will quickly kill them. Studies have found that the metastasis of breast cancer is mainly related to factors of the tumor and the body's internal environment.
