Should I stop breastfeeding if I have areola eczema?

Every skin area on the body has the possibility of being found with eczema. As a common skin disease on the body, eczema, once formed on the human skin, will cause itching sensation and even have a tendency to spread. During breastfeeding, mothers may also experience areola eczema. Areola eczema is a problem caused by mothers' nipples being in the baby's mouth for a long time. Can mothers continue to breastfeed at this time?

Can I breastfeed if I have breast eczema?

Many mothers are worried that breast eczema will be transmitted to their babies, so they dare not breastfeed during the illness. In fact, breast eczema is mostly an inflammatory disease, not an infectious disease. The disease is mostly related to allergic reactions, and a small part is caused by viral and bacterial infections. There is no need to worry about whether it is contagious. Before deciding whether to breastfeed, you can first confirm whether you have viral breast eczema or simple skin allergy breast eczema.

If it is just a skin disease, it generally will not affect the mammary ducts and mammary tissue, and will not affect the quality of milk, so mothers can breastfeed. But be careful not to let the baby suck the nipple directly. It is best to combine it with other milk powder to enhance the baby's nutrition in daily life.

At the same time, if you develop breast eczema during breastfeeding and still let your baby breastfeed, the milk and the baby's saliva will irritate the breasts, which is not conducive to the recovery of eczema.

If it is viral breast eczema, the impact will be relatively large, and it is best for the mother to wait until the eczema is healed before stopping breastfeeding.
