Is a lactation consultant helpful if I don't have enough milk?

A baby's growth cannot be separated from the mother's milk. Babies who grow up eating the mother's milk have higher immunity, are less likely to get sick, and are healthier. But the most troublesome thing is that some women do not have enough milk to provide enough milk for their babies, which may lead to malnutrition of the baby. The job of a lactation consultant is to help mothers solve the problem of insufficient milk. So is it useful for women with insufficient milk to find a lactation consultant?

A lactation consultant is responsible for treating postpartum blocked mammary glands. Their massage helps to unblock the mammary glands and allow the milk to flow out. Mothers have to determine which situation they fall into. Generally, if the baby is unable to suck out milk and there are lumps in the breast, this is when a lactation consultant needs to be involved, which is very helpful. If it is completely soft, it means there is no milk and this lactation induction method is useless.

1. Breast obstruction

Whether the mammary ducts are unobstructed is a congenital condition for the amount of milk produced. If the mammary ducts are blocked, you need to find a way to open them. It is recommended that new mothers learn some massage techniques and frequently apply hot and cold compresses to the breasts to expand the blood vessels.

2. Not sucking enough

For newborns, it is recommended to suck for about 1 hour each time. As the mammary glands become unobstructed, the time will naturally be reduced. After each feeding, try to empty your milk by pumping it out.

3. Eating too much greasy food

In the first week after delivery, it is not recommended for mothers to eat too greasy food, as it can easily cause milk stasis and, in severe cases, lumps may appear in the breasts.

4. Anger causes milk blockage

The older generation often advises you not to get angry during the confinement period, as anger can easily cause milk blockage, which makes sense. Being angry will definitely put you in a bad mood, and a bad mood will cause liver qi stagnation, which will naturally cause milk blockage.

The editor shares with you whether a lactation consultant is effective when the mother has low milk supply. Many mothers always cannot figure out the reason why they have no milk and ask a lactation consultant to stimulate milk production. If the mother's breasts are soft after delivery, then it is a symptom of having no milk at all. In this case, there is no need to ask a lactation consultant. In addition, you must pay attention to your emotional problems. A bad mood can easily cause milk withdrawal.
