How to judge whether the uterus is left-rotating or right-rotating

Whether the uterus is left-rotated or right-rotated can only be determined through B-ultrasound examination. For most people, the uterus will rotate to the right in the late pregnancy. At this time, doctors usually recommend that pregnant women sleep on their left side. This is due to the characteristics of the internal organ structure of the human body. Sleeping on the left side is good for the development of the fetus. If you sleep on your right side or on your back, it may cause compression on the fetus.

How to judge whether the uterus is left-rotating or right-rotating

It can only be identified and diagnosed through B-ultrasound! Generally, it will be clearly stated on the B-ultrasound form.

There is no other way to judge accurately!

Due to the anatomical feature of the sigmoid colon occupying the left lower abdomen, the uterus in middle and late pregnancy will have varying degrees of right rotation, which will cause the uterine blood vessels to be pulled or twisted, and will also reduce the blood supply to the uterus and placenta. Dextrorotation of the uterus during pregnancy is not a disease. Since the uterus is rotated to the right in the late pregnancy, lying on the left side can improve the degree of dextrorotation of the uterus, reduce the tension on the uterine blood vessels, restore the diameter of the blood vessels, and thus ensure blood flow to the placenta.

Adjustment of left-right rotation of the uterus

Theoretically, after pregnancy, as the gestational age increases, the uterus becomes larger and shifts to the right. This is a normal physiological phenomenon. The left lateral decubitus position can correct the right rotation of the uterus, reduce the uterine pressure on the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries, avoid the pressure of the uterus on the inferior vena cava, increase the blood output of pregnant women, improve the blood perfusion of the uterus and placenta, help reduce premature birth, and avoid the pressure of the uterus on the kidneys. Therefore, sleeping on the left side of a pregnant woman is beneficial to the growth and eugenics of the fetus. In addition, it can effectively prevent fetal intrauterine dislocation and relieve edema problems in pregnant women. Of course, it is impossible to maintain one sleeping position, you can alternate between left and right, but it is best to adopt more left-side positions.

What sleeping position is good during late pregnancy?

Left lateral decubitus position

In fact, the basis for recommending the left side lying position is the position of the human body's large blood vessels. Our spine is located in the middle of the human body, the inferior vena cava is located on the right side of the spine, and the abdominal aorta is located on the left side of the spine (with exceptions for a few special groups of people).

The left side lying position can appropriately offset the right rotation of the enlarged uterus, reduce the pressure of the uterus on the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries, improve blood circulation, increase blood and oxygen supply to the fetus, which is beneficial to the growth and development of the fetus, and also helps to avoid and reduce the occurrence of gestational hypertension.

Right side decubitus

If you lie on your right side for a long time, the enlarged uterus will rotate to the right to varying degrees. This will put the ligaments and mesentery that maintain the normal position of the uterus in a state of tension, and the blood vessels in the mesentery will be pulled, affecting the blood supply to the fetus, causing chronic fetal hypoxia, and in severe cases, causing fetal suffocation and death.

Supine position

In the late stages of pregnancy, if you still sleep in a supine position, the heavy uterus will compress the inferior vena cava and abdominal aorta at the same time. Many expectant mothers will have their blood circulation affected, feel uncomfortable, have symptoms such as palpitations and shortness of breath, and be unable to fall asleep. Since veins are more affected than arteries under the same pressure, it is generally recommended to lie on the left side and compress the abdominal aorta.
