Is grade 4 breast nodule serious?

Breast nodules are a very complicated disease. Patients can feel nodules inside the breasts with their hands. Pressing them may cause pain, or there may be no pain at all. When many women experience this symptom, they become particularly worried and afraid, and make blind judgments. These practices are wrong. The most important thing at this time is to go to the hospital for examination. If the examination results are breast and level 4, does it mean that the condition is already very serious?

Is grade 4 breast nodule serious?

Breast nodule grading was first determined in radiological diagnosis, which is the BI-RADS grading, with levels 0-4. Grade 0 means that no tumor can be seen on imaging and further examination is needed; Grade 1 means there is no problem; Grade 2 is also a normal situation; at Grade 3, a lump may be seen on imaging, but it is benign, with only about a 2% chance of being malignant; Grade 4 has a very obvious lump, and Grade 4 is divided into 4a, 4c and 4c; 4a has about a 2% chance of being malignant; 4b has a 10%-50% chance of being malignant; and 4c has a 50%-95% chance of being malignant. Therefore, when a 4b diagnosis is presented, clinicians recommend that patients undergo a pathological biopsy of the tumor to determine whether it is malignant.

Level 0: Recall is required and further evaluation will be conducted after other inspections. This indicates that the information obtained during the inspection may not be complete. Some changes require comparison with previous imaging data or further evaluation with other imaging studies. It may be a pre-existing benign change, such as asymmetric changes in the bilateral breast glands.

Level 1: No abnormalities found. Negative. Breast imaging examinations show that the breast structure is clear and can be confidently judged as normal or normal. Common and multiple breast hyperplasia in women belongs to this category.

Grade 2: Benign, regular review is recommended. For benign lesions, regular follow-up (e.g., once a year) is recommended. It includes definite benign breast masses, such as lipomas, simple cysts, definite benign calcifications, breast nodules that have no obvious changes after multiple examinations, breast prostheses that have changed after surgery and have no obvious changes after multiple examinations, etc.

Grade 3: Possibly benign, and the follow-up period needs to be shortened. The proportion of this grade of malignancy is less than 2%. It may be a benign lesion. Short-term follow-up (such as once every 3 to 6 months) is recommended. Its malignancy rate is less than 2%. It refers to a solid oval mass with no malignant signs, such as breast fibroids, which are benign.

Level 4: Malignant lesions are considered possible and biopsy is required for confirmation. Consider the possibility of malignancy and require biopsy to confirm. Grade 4 is further divided into three grades: a, b, and c. The risk of malignancy gradually increases, ranging from approximately 3% to 94%. Further biopsy is necessary at this time.

Level 5: Highly suspected malignant lesions requiring surgical excision and biopsy. A highly suspected malignant lesion (almost certain of malignancy) requires surgical excisional biopsy. A solid mass with >3 malignant manifestations has a 95% chance of being malignant.

Level 6: Malignant lesions have been confirmed by pathology. This is the highest level, and the situation is predictable. Even with all the magic power in his hands, he was powerless to save the situation. The lesion has been confirmed to be a malignant lesion by pathology, but surgery has not yet been performed.
