Severe gas after cesarean section

Severe gas after cesarean section

Women who have undergone cesarean section should know that after the cesarean section, doctors will always advise women to pass gas from their intestines as soon as possible. The anesthesia injected during cesarean section may inhibit the peristalsis of the human gastrointestinal tract, and there are other reasons that may also cause bloating in women undergoing cesarean section. However, some women who have undergone cesarean section have severe bloating, which seriously affects their eating and health. So what are the solutions at this time?

Causes of postpartum bloating

There will be varying degrees of intestinal flatulence after cesarean section, so the mother will feel abdominal distension. There are many reasons for intestinal flatulence, such as anesthesia inhibiting intestinal peristalsis, blood and amniotic fluid overflowing into the abdominal cavity during surgery stimulating the intestinal curves, and swallowing of gas during and after surgery. In addition, for some women, just after they have undergone a cesarean section, their families begin to provide them with large amounts of milk, sugar, soybeans, soy milk, starch and other foods. Eating these foods will cause intestinal gas production and cause abdominal distension in postpartum women. Caesarean section can stimulate the intestinal muscles, resulting in suppressed intestinal function, slower intestinal motility, and gas accumulation in the intestinal cavity, which can easily lead to abdominal distension after surgery. Therefore, eating too much of these foods after surgery will aggravate abdominal distension and is not conducive to wound healing.

What to do if postpartum bloating is severe

It is recommended that family members do not feed these gas-producing foods to the postpartum mother. It is appropriate to eat some gas-generating foods, such as carrot soup, 6 hours after the birth, to enhance intestinal motility, promote gas discharge, reduce bloating, and also replenish water in the body. After 24 hours of gastrointestinal function recovery, eat liquid food for one day, such as egg soup, rice soup, etc. After the mother has passed gas, her diet can be changed from liquid food to semi-liquid food. It is appropriate to eat nutritious and easily digestible food, such as egg soup, porridge, noodles, wontons, etc., and then the diet can be gradually restored to normal according to the mother's physical condition. In order to better promote the recovery of intestinal motility, mothers should increase their activities. After the operation, you should pay attention to turning over more often and get out of bed and move around properly the next day.

Generally speaking, women will experience varying degrees of abdominal bloating after a cesarean section. This is a normal phenomenon and you don't need to worry too much. As long as you pay more attention to conditioning and care, drink some gas-relieving soups, and do appropriate activities, you can promote gas discharge, relieve abdominal bloating, and help your body recover.
