The difference between major fetal malformation screening and Down syndrome screening

The difference between major fetal malformation screening and Down syndrome screening

There is naturally a big difference between the two examination items, major fetal malformation screening and Down syndrome screening, and the examination items are also completely different. If you want to know whether the fetus in your belly has Down syndrome, you must take Down syndrome screening. For other problems such as the placenta and amniotic fluid, you need to do major fetal malformation screening. In this way, you can accurately know whether there are any problems with your body.

1. Understand the growth and development of the fetus

2. Fetal position

3. Amniotic fluid volume

The amount of amniotic fluid is very important for fetal growth and development. Too much or too little amniotic fluid may indicate fetal malformation. The doctor will record the amount of amniotic fluid in every ultrasound report. The less water there is, the greater the possibility that the fetus will suffer from oxygen deprivation and asphyxia during birth.

4. Understand the placenta

Such as the structure of the placenta, the maturity of the placenta, whether there is separation between the placenta and the uterine wall, bleeding, and other very important information. B-ultrasound can clearly understand whether the position of the placenta is normal, whether there is a hemangioma in the placenta, whether the placenta is consistent with the gestational age, and can clearly diagnose the existence of dangerous conditions such as placenta previa and early placental abruption, which is very important for clinicians to make correct diagnosis.

Between 28 and 32 weeks, it may take longer because it needs to be observed more carefully.

The B-ultrasound currently used in clinical practice emits a sound intensity of less than 10 mW/cm2 from its probe, and the ultrasound examination usually takes only 5 to 10 minutes, with the detection time for each organ being even shorter. Therefore, the harm of B-ultrasound examination to the fetus is extremely small and will not affect the physical and mental development of the fetus.

1. Move more before fetal anomaly screening, which is conducive to the baby's fetal position reaching the best position. During the BC examination, all the baby's conditions can be well presented to the BC doctor. There will be no situation where some of the baby's organs are not clearly visible or cannot be seen due to the fetal position.

3. According to the experience of those who have experienced it, it is also appropriate to eat a few pieces of chocolate during the BC fetal anomaly screening. It is said that this can make the baby move more, which is conducive to the fetal anomaly screening.

B-ultrasound checks the baby's facial features, limbs and internal organs for abnormalities, while blood and urine tests are general routine examinations, mainly to check for anemia. It is recommended to screen for Down syndrome at 16-20 weeks, with fasting blood draw - mainly to screen for fetal neural tube defects,

A three-dimensional color ultrasound is performed around 24 weeks, which can clearly display the organs of the fetus, understand the growth and development of the fetus, and observe whether there are any deformities in the gross structure of the head, limbs and organs. In addition, fetal heart rate, blood pressure, etc. should be checked regularly.
