How are pregnancy cysts formed?

Many women will experience pregnancy cysts during pregnancy, which will have a certain impact on the fetus in the woman's body. Because progesterone will rise rapidly during pregnancy, this will change some of the woman's physiological habits, especially for the woman's uterus. It is very likely that the increase in progesterone will cause endometriosis. So how are pregnancy cysts formed?

Pregnant women experience many changes as progesterone is produced, some of which are good and some are bad. There is a disease called cyst, which is caused by hormone adjustment and stimulation. This disease may affect the patient's successful pregnancy. So why do cysts occur during pregnancy? Let’s take a look.

Why do cysts occur during pregnancy?

Ovarian cysts during pregnancy are generally physiological cysts. The follicle ruptures, the egg is discharged, and what remains usually forms a corpus luteum which slowly atrophies. However, when pregnancy occurs, the corpus luteum needs to provide progesterone and HCG to help the fertilized egg implant. Sometimes a corpus luteum cyst will form. Three months later, the placenta is formed, and the corpus luteum cyst will slowly disappear. If it is not a physiological cyst, it doesn’t matter if it is not big.

Types of pregnancy cysts

1. Functional cyst: This is the most common cyst.

2. Hemorrhagic cysts: Sometimes follicular cysts and corpus luteum cysts grow too rapidly, causing the ovarian tissue to be pulled and rupture and bleed.

3. Serous epithelial cysts and mucinous epithelial cysts: Cysts that still exist after three months of observation are likely to be epithelial ovarian cysts rather than functional cysts.

4. Chocolate cyst: It refers to endometriosis growing in the ovaries, forming a large amount of sticky brown chocolate-like liquid in the ovaries.

5. Teratoma: This is a very special cyst. It may be caused by problems in cell differentiation during the embryonic period, and it may take a long time to manifest itself.

6. Ovarian cancer: The chance of developing ovarian cancer is quite low, but because it is located in the pelvic cavity, it is not easy to detect early.

7. Endometrioid tumors have a smooth surface and are often unilocular. Their inner walls are composed of a layer of tall columnar epithelium that is very similar to the endometrium. The surrounding connective tissue lacks endometrial stroma, and there is no bleeding inside or outside the cyst.

The above is the relevant content about why cysts occur during pregnancy. In short, pregnancy is a special period, and many pregnancy-related diseases may occur. Once a cyst is found, you can observe it first and seek medical attention promptly if abdominal pain occurs. Check the B-ultrasound regularly. If the cyst does not change, then there is no problem. If it grows bigger, follow the doctor's advice and seek treatment.
