What is a cervical needle?

We often hear people talking about cervical injections, but we don’t know what it is. In fact, the cervical injection is mainly a vaccine for cervical cancer. It can prevent the occurrence of cervical cancer after injection, and at the same time reduce the possible problem of cancer. So many people now get the cervical injection, but some people will get it and some people will not. It depends on everyone’s age and physical needs.

Cervical cancer vaccine, also known as HPV vaccine, is a type of vaccine that can prevent human papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Medical research shows that 99.7% of cervical cancer is caused by the HPV virus. Of the 160 countries that use the vaccine worldwide, a considerable number call it the "cervical cancer vaccine," although this is not very precise. It is generally recognized internationally that HPV vaccine has a preventive effect on women aged 9-45. If women can be injected with HPV vaccine before their first sexual intercourse, the incidence of cervical cancer and precancerous lesions will be reduced by 90%.

On July 18, 2016, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) announced that the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine [type 16 and type 18] (trade name: Cervarix) obtained marketing authorization from the China Food and Drug Administration, becoming China's first approved HPV vaccine for the prevention of cervical cancer. In July 2017, Cervarix was officially launched and is suitable for women aged 9-25.

On April 23, 2018, the official website of the Center for Drug Evaluation (CDE) of the State Food and Drug Administration reported that the marketing applications for two nine-valent human papillomavirus vaccines (brewer's yeast), namely the nine-valent HPV cervical cancer vaccine, developed by Merck, have been accepted. On April 28, the nine-valent cervical cancer vaccine was approved for marketing. At the end of May and the beginning of June, the first injection of vaccines was given in the mainland at the Boao Super Hospital in Hainan. In December, Xia Ningshao's team at Xiamen University used the emerging structural vaccinology method to obtain a third-generation cervical cancer vaccine that only requires seven types of virus particles to cover twenty types of HPV virus. This laid a key technical foundation for the development of a third-generation cervical cancer vaccine that covers all high-risk types of HPV and opened the door to the development of a third-generation cervical cancer vaccine.

Vaccine Types

There are currently three HPV vaccines on the market, namely Merck's quadrivalent (types 6, 11, 16, and 18), nine-valent (6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 58) HPV vaccine, and GlaxoSmithKline's bivalent (types 16 and 18) HPV vaccine. The valence represents the subtype of HPV virus. 16 and 18 valence are high-risk HPV viruses, while 6 and 11 valence are low-risk viruses. [2]

Vaccination time

The Hong Kong Vaccine Station introduces that Merck's quadrivalent and nine-valent vaccines should be injected three times within six months. The vaccine should be used as follows:

First dose: Choose your own date

Second dose: two months after the first dose

Third dose: Six months after the first dose

(For example, if the first dose is administered on January 1, the second and third doses should be administered on March 1 and July 1 respectively.

The bivalent cervical cancer vaccine is administered as three doses at 0, 1, and 6 months.[3]
