What to do if your breasts are flat after childbirth

What to do if your breasts are flat after childbirth

Women's breasts change significantly over time, especially the breast shape changes greatly before and after childbirth. Some women will experience flat breasts after childbirth, and it is difficult to return to normal, which makes many women feel very inferior. Therefore, it is very important to address changes in breast morphology. What should I do if my breasts are flat after childbirth? Let’s take a look at the explanation below.

1. Pull before feeding

Before feeding the baby, the mother can pull the nipple outwards with her hands, or use a breast pump a few times to make the nipple slightly protruding and easier for the baby to suck.

2. Homemade nipple traction device

Professional nipple retractors are available in maternal and child supply stores, but we can also make one ourselves: take a 200 ml syringe and cut off the front end with scissors. Take out the push pin and put it in through the cut. Put the smooth end on the mother's nipple and slowly pull it outwards. It saves effort and the effect is very good.

Through repeated effective sucking and the suction of the negative pressure of the traction device, the inverted nipple will be gradually sucked out, allowing normal breastfeeding.

3. Correct breastfeeding posture

On the first day after delivery, if the mother is weak or has pain in the wound, she can breastfeed in the side-lying position. For a newborn baby, the mother should not only support his head and shoulders, but also his little butt. Family members can also help out. When the mother has almost recovered, she can sit up and hold the baby to feed the baby. Be careful not to let your back hang in the air. Find a cushion to support your waist to avoid back pain after delivery.

4. Effective sucking

The mother uses her index finger and thumb to lift the nipple outwards, and tries to put the nipple and areola into the baby's mouth, so that the baby's tongue can wrap around the mother's nipple and areola from bottom to top. In this way, as the baby sucks, the tongue moves in a wave-like motion from front to back, and the lips move rhythmically, either loose or tight, which can stimulate the nerve-sensitive area of the mother's areola. This is the best signal to promote lactation.
