What are the effects of malposition of the fetus?

The birth of a newborn baby marks the continuation of a family, but it is not an easy thing. The most feared situation for a newborn in the mother's body is malposition of the fetus. As the name suggests, malposition of the fetus means that the position of the fetus in the mother's body is different from the normal fetal position. Abnormal fetal position and normal fetal position will definitely have a great impact on the fetus. So, what are the effects of malposition of the fetus?

1. Harm of malposition of fetus to the mother:

1) Because it requires greater effort, and because the labor process is prolonged, the mother lacks rest and nutrition, so she is often exhausted.

2) During childbirth, the perineum is stretched severely, which can easily cause larger lacerations.

3) Increased blood loss due to lacerations of the cervix, vagina, and uterine body, or due to weak uterine contractions.

4) Infection is prone to occur due to early rupture of membranes, excessive blood loss, tissue injury or too many vaginal and anal examinations.

5) The mother will feel severe abdominal pain before the uterus contracts, and the pain will not stop even after it relaxes.

2. Harm of malposition to the fetus:

1) The fetus cannot fit completely into the pelvis, which makes it difficult for the fetus to pass through the pelvis, causing the head to be deformed.

2) Prolonged labor increases the incidence of fetal hypoxia, brain injury, asphyxia, and intrauterine death.

3) The increased incidence of operative delivery relatively increases the risk of fetal injury.

4) Umbilical cord prolapse is more likely to occur than in normal fetal position.

3. Harm of malposition of fetus to production:

1) The incidence of fetal head-pelvic disproportion is high.

2) Uterine contractions are weak and irregular.

3) Labor is often prolonged.

4) Abnormal uterine contractions often occur and may lead to uterine rupture.

5) The cervix dilates slowly and incompletely.

6) Early rupture of membranes often occurs.

7) Malposition of the fetus increases the chance of caesarean section.
