Can pregnant women drink Hawthorn Tree?

Pregnant women are often very concerned about their physical health. If any small problem occurs, they will go to the hospital for examination. This is mainly to allow the fetus in their belly to grow more healthily. Therefore, pregnant women must not consume foods such as hawthorn. If this food is consumed too much, it will lead to threatened abortion or even habitual abortion.

Traditional Chinese medicine believes that hawthorn only has the effect of digestion and not nourishment, so people with weak spleen and stomach should not eat too much. Healthy people should also eat hawthorn in moderation, especially children, who are in the period of tooth replacement. Eating hawthorn or hawthorn slices, hawthorn cakes, etc. for a long time is not good for tooth growth. In addition, hawthorn slices and fruit danpi contain a lot of sugar. If children eat too much, their blood sugar will remain at a high level, and they will not feel hungry, which will affect their eating.

Eating in large quantities can lead to malnutrition, anemia, etc. Diabetics should not eat it, but they can eat fresh hawthorn fruit appropriately. Be sure to rinse your mouth and brush your teeth in time after eating to prevent damage to your teeth.

Because hawthorn contains more organic acids, it has astringent and blood-dissolving effects, and therefore it also has the effect of contracting the uterus. Pregnant women suffering from habitual abortion or threatened abortion should not eat it to avoid hurting the fetus.

Candied Haws

It was during the Shaoxing period of the Southern Song Dynasty. Concubine Huang, the favorite of Emperor Guangzong of Song, fell ill with a strange disease. She suddenly became pale and thin, and had no appetite. The imperial physician used many expensive medicines, but none of them worked. Seeing that the imperial concubine was getting sicker day by day, the emperor had no choice but to post a notice to recruit doctors. A quack doctor answered the call and entered the palace. After checking the imperial concubine's pulse, he said, "Just boil 'Tangqiuzi' (hawthorn) with brown sugar, eat 5 to 10 pieces before each meal, and you will be cured in half a month." The imperial concubine took the prescription and recovered as expected. The emperor was greatly pleased and ordered that the same method be followed. Later, this sour, crisp and sweet hawthorn was spread to the people and became candied haws.

According to pharmacological experiments, the decoction of scorched hawthorn has obvious inhibitory effects on various Shigella dysenteriae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus anthracis, etc. in vitro, so it can be used to treat bacillary dysentery.

Hawthorn can also treat red worms. Take 1 kg of fresh hawthorn, wash it, and chew it from 15:00 to 22:00 in the afternoon. Do not eat dinner. The next morning, take 100 grams of betel nut decoction in water and rest in bed. When you feel like having a bowel movement, wait for a while before going to the toilet. This will help expel the entire red worm. In winter, you should sit on a warm water toilet to prevent the red worms from shrinking due to the cold. The efficiency can reach 100%.

The pectin content in hawthorn ranks first among all fruits, reaching 6.4%. According to the latest research, pectin acts as an anti-radiation substance, removing half of the radioactive elements (strontium, cobalt, palladium, etc.) from the body. Pectin also has adsorption and antibacterial properties, which can remove bacteria and toxins from the intestines and bind water, thus treating diarrhea.
