What to do if you smoke a lot during pregnancy

In today's society, men and women are equal, so anything men can do, women can do too. For example, women can smoke, and some women may be more addicted to smoking than men. Everyone knows that when two people are preparing to have a baby, both men and women need to quit smoking because smoking will affect the child's development. However, some people are not very aware of this and still choose to smoke during pregnancy. So what should I do if I smoke a lot during pregnancy?

1. Take folic acid tablets. If you want to continue the pregnancy, it is recommended that you do a Down syndrome screening at 15-20 weeks of pregnancy to check the intellectual development of the fetus, and do a four-dimensional color Doppler ultrasound examination at 22-26 weeks of pregnancy to understand whether the fetus has gross malformations and the development of major organs.

2. Tobacco contains many toxic substances, such as nicotine, hydrocyanic acid, ammonia, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, pyridine, aromatic compounds and tar. Toxic substances can be absorbed into the mother's blood along with the smoke, reducing the oxygen content in the mother's blood and the oxygen content in the placental blood. In this way, due to the lack of oxygen for the fetus, its growth and development will be slow. Toxic substances can also penetrate into the placenta through the blood and directly affect the fetus, which may cause congenital malformations, miscarriage, premature rupture of membranes, etc.

3. It is recommended to avoid smoking as much as possible during pregnancy, go to a regular hospital's gynecology department for prenatal and postnatal checkups, and closely observe the development of the fetus.

Tips

Many pregnant women are often forced to be in an environment of secondhand smoke during pregnancy, and many pregnant women do not know how harmful this environment is to their own health and the health of the fetus. Secondhand smoke contains a large number of harmful substances, including 69 carcinogenic substances. These substances can induce key gene mutations in the body, thereby affecting the normal growth control mechanism and ultimately leading to cell cancer and the occurrence of malignant tumors.
