Treatment of chronic vaginitis

Treatment of chronic vaginitis

Chronic vaginitis is caused by acute vaginitis that is not treated well and eventually turns into a chronic disease. Its characteristic is that it is easy to relapse. If the treatment is interrupted during the treatment process, it may even form drug resistance, which increases the difficulty of treatment. When treating chronic vaginitis, you cannot simply rely on some Chinese patent medicines. You still need some Western medicines for treatment and pay attention to the course of treatment.

Treatment of chronic vaginitis

1. Do not rely solely on Chinese patent medicines:

Some gynecological Chinese patent medicines have the effect of clearing away heat and detoxifying, but they are generally slow to take effect and not very targeted. They are often used as auxiliary treatment for chronic gynecological inflammation and cannot be used as a treatment option. For acute trichomoniasis, fungal and bacterial infections, anti-trichomoniasis and antifungal drugs should be selected. Simply using Chinese patent medicines may delay the disease.

2. Do not abuse vaginal suppositories:

Using suppositories to treat inflammation without finding the cause will only make the condition worse. For example, in cases of acute trichomoniasis or fungal infection, corrosive vaginal suppositories should not be used; if it is acute vaginitis, the use of suppositories may cause the inflammation to spread.

3. Don’t buy medicine according to advertisements:

Different types of vaginitis require different medications. Before buying medicine, patients should understand the characteristics of the disease and choose the right medicine. If you are not clear about your symptoms, you should go to the hospital for treatment. The doctor will choose sensitive drugs for treatment based on the infectious pathogens and the patient's physical signs. Do not blindly choose drugs according to advertisements.

4. Do not use antibiotics in large quantities:

Some patients start taking antibiotics immediately after learning that they have vaginitis. In fact, excessive use of antibiotics can make bacteria resistant, destroy the balance between vaginal flora, and prolong the treatment cycle. Especially in the case of fungal infection, the use of antibiotics will aggravate the symptoms of infection.

Common causes of vaginitis

1. Damage to the vaginal environment

There are various microbial communities in the vagina of healthy women, which restrict and coordinate with each other to maintain a dynamic balance of vaginal microecology. If the estrogen level in the body decreases or the vaginal pH increases, frequent sexual intercourse and vaginal douching can increase the vaginal pH, which is not conducive to the growth of lactobacillus. Long-term use of antibiotics to inhibit the growth of Lactobacillus, or low immunity of the body, can make other conditional pathogens become dominant and cause inflammation.

2. Pathogen invasion

When the body's own environment or the external environment changes, the natural defense function of the vagina will be destroyed, making it easier for pathogens to invade the vagina and lead to the occurrence of vaginitis. Vaginitis is more likely to occur if there is a history of vaginal injury, pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, unclean sexual intercourse, or uterine surgery.

3. Low estrogen levels in young girls and postmenopausal women

The vulva of young girls is underdeveloped and cannot cover the urethral opening and vaginal vestibule, making it easy for bacteria to invade. In addition, young girls have lower estrogen levels, thin vaginal epithelium, less glycogen, and a higher pH value, so they are very likely to get infected or inflammatory.

Postmenopausal women lack estrogen, their vaginal mucosa atrophies, the glycogen content of epithelial cells decreases, local resistance decreases, and they are susceptible to bacterial infection and vaginitis.
