Why is there a lesion in the biopsy when the TCT is normal?

Married women will regularly check the condition of their cervix. The most important part of cervical examination is TCT. Generally speaking, a normal TCT also means a normal cervix. However, some female friends found that their biopsy showed signs of lesions after the TCT test was normal. This is mostly due to inflammation and requires professional treatment advice from a doctor. This article introduces the details of this aspect, let’s take a look.

1. Why is there a lesion in the biopsy when TCT is normal?

TCT is a scientific technology for checking cervical cancer cells. It mainly involves making cell smears and brushing off the cells for step-by-step examination. However, cervical biopsy directly removes the diseased tissue from the affected area and then performs a series of sectioning. It is more accurate than TCT and the results are clearer. If TCT is fine but the biopsy shows lesions, there should be inflammation in the body, which should be detected and treated in time.

2. Steps of TCT examination

1. Use a TCT special cervical brush to collect cervical cell samples. It is necessary to go deep into the cervix and collect cervical exfoliated cells in the transition zone.

2. Place the cervical brush that has been used to remove the exfoliated cells into a vial of cell preservation solution for rinsing, so that the cells are transferred to the preservation solution bottle.

3. Write the patient’s name and affix a barcode on the bottle.

4. Place the preservation solution bottle into the fully automatic cell preparation system to mix, filter, transfer, and finally attach the sample cells to the glass slide.

5. Stain, prepare and fix the slides, and finally observe and diagnose under a microscope.

Advantages of TCT examination

In fact, TCT testing is only the first step in the examination of cervical lesions. Generally speaking, the diagnosis of cervical lesions is divided into three steps: TCT, colposcopy and pathological diagnosis. Although only pathological diagnosis is truly authoritative in determining whether a cell tissue is a lesion, TCT still shows obvious advantages as the first checkpoint. If TCT shows a problem, then women should undergo further colposcopy or pathological diagnosis to accurately determine the condition; but if the TCT test results show a benign condition, these tests do not need to be done again.

The above is the basic knowledge about TCT examination. It is still relatively accurate as a test for cervical cancer. However, sometimes lesions will be found in the biopsy. This is generally inflammation and needs timely treatment. It cannot be cancerous. There is no need to worry too much about this. Generally, some women with normal TCT test results do not undergo other examinations.
