Can I get pregnant with a single fallopian tube?

Some women may have one fallopian tube removed due to physical reasons, so that only one fallopian tube is left. In fact, one fallopian tube can also ovulate, but it will only lead to a lower chance of pregnancy. Therefore, if women want to ensure eugenics, they can do more preparations when preparing for pregnancy, and eat some foods that can dredge the fallopian tube when necessary. So, can you get pregnant with only one fallopian tube?

First, let’s look at the function of the fallopian tube.

The fallopian tube is an important component of the female reproductive system. It is 6-15 cm long and is composed of mucosa, circular smooth muscle and serosa. It is divided into the fimbria, ampulla, isthmus and interstitial part. The connection between the ampulla and the isthmus is called the ampulla-isthmus connection, and the connection between the isthmus and the interstitial part is called the uterus-fallopian tube connection. The walls of these connection parts are thicker and the lumen changes greatly.

The fallopian tube has physiological functions such as transporting sperm, eggs and fertilized eggs, as well as providing sperm storage, capacitation, acrosome reaction and fertilization site. The fallopian tubes on both sides are located on both sides of the uterus, like the two wings of the uterus. The fallopian tubes play a very important role in pregnancy. After the egg is released from the ovary, it is "picked up" by the fallopian tube and enters the fallopian tube from the fimbria.

It is in the fallopian tube that the egg and sperm combine to form a fertilized egg, taking the first step in life. The lumen of the fallopian tube is relatively narrow, with the diameter of the narrowest part being only 1 to 2 mm.

Therefore, when salpingitis or pelvic inflammatory disease occurs, the narrowest part and fimbria of the fallopian tube are prone to adhesion or complete atresia. In this way, sperm and egg cannot meet in the tubular lumen, thus causing infertility.

If the fallopian tubes are chronically inflamed and blocked or have abnormal development or function, infertility may occur. Even if the egg is fertilized, it will be difficult for it to enter the uterus and complete all the steps of conception. If the fertilized egg stays in the fallopian tube to develop, a tubal pregnancy occurs, commonly known as an ectopic pregnancy, which seriously threatens the life of women.

Therefore, once bilateral fallopian tube removal occurs, the channel for sperm and egg to meet is cut off, and the probability of natural pregnancy is zero. So can sisters who have had both fallopian tubes removed still have their own children? Of course they can!
