What is breast augmentation capsular contracture?

In life, women all want their bodies to be sexier. In addition to maintaining good skin condition, they also need to grow flesh where necessary. Especially the breasts. In modern society, women’s breasts are sometimes more important than their faces. Women with plump breasts will become the focus wherever they go, so many women choose to have breast augmentation surgery. So, what exactly is breast augmentation capsular contracture?

definition

Capsular contracture is a common complication of breast augmentation implants and may occur at any time after surgery. Generally speaking, it refers to the formation of a capsule around the prosthesis after breast augmentation with a prosthesis.

Envelope formation factors

1. Studies on the quality and properties of the prosthesis have found that the incidence of capsular contracture of textured breast prostheses is significantly lower than that of smooth breast prostheses, and the feel of silicone gel breast prostheses is significantly better than that of saline breast prostheses.

2. The location of the prosthesis implantation: The incidence of postoperative capsular contracture is significantly lower when the prosthesis is implanted into the space behind the pectoralis major muscle than when the prosthesis is implanted into the space behind the breast.

3. Hematoma If the accumulated blood in the surgical area is not adequately drained and a hematoma is formed, the incidence of postoperative capsular contracture will be greatly increased.

4. Infection Even if latent infection occurs in the surgical area, the incidence of postoperative capsular contracture will be greatly increased.

5. The presence of foreign matter If there is talcum powder on the gloves, it will increase the incidence of postoperative capsular contracture.

Causes

The cause of capsular contracture is not very clear, but it may be related to the following factors:

① Types of prostheses. For example, the incidence of capsular contracture of saline-filled prostheses is much lower than that of silicone gel prostheses, and that of textured prostheses is significantly lower than that of smooth prostheses.

②The location of the prosthesis implant. The prosthesis implanted under the pectoralis major muscle has abundant blood supply around it, and the constant squeezing and friction of the chest muscles on the prosthesis greatly reduces the incidence of capsular contracture.

③Postoperative hematoma and infection not only increase the chance of capsular contracture, but also greatly advance the time of its occurrence.
