Back pain at 40 weeks of pregnancy

Back pain at 40 weeks of pregnancy

The 40th week of pregnancy is a very dangerous period, because women at this time must always pay attention to changes in their bodies, and most pregnant women will have their due date around the 40th week. So what women need to pay attention to is whether their bodies have the desire to give birth soon. Lower back pain is a symptom that many pregnant women experience, but what does lower back pain mean when you are 40 weeks pregnant?

How long will it take to give birth if I have back pain at 40 weeks of pregnancy?

A few weeks before delivery, the uterine muscles are more sensitive and irregular uterine contractions will occur, lasting for a short time, with weak force, or limited to the lower part of the uterus. It stops after several hours and cannot cause the cervix to open, so it is not labor and is called false labor.

Before delivery, "false labor" will become more and more frequent due to the traction stimulation of the lower part of the uterus caused by the descending fetal head. Lower back pain has nothing to do with childbirth.

False labor before delivery is generally painless, but regular labor contractions will only cause symptoms such as pain, back pain, frequent urination, etc., and uterine contractions initially occur every 20-30 minutes, gradually shortening to every 15 minutes, 10 minutes or even every 5 minutes, and the duration of contractions increases from the initial 20 seconds to 40 seconds or even 1 minute. Keep your mind relaxed. If your water breaks, you see spotting, and you have regular uterine contractions, which are signs of impending labor, you should go to the hospital in time to prepare for delivery. As for when you can give birth, it mainly depends on how quickly your labor progresses. If you have regular uterine contractions and the fetal head descends smoothly, you will be able to give birth soon.

What are the causes of backache in pregnant women?

1. Physiological reasons

After a pregnant woman becomes pregnant, her weight will increase significantly as the fetus grows larger and the weight of the amniotic fluid increases, coupled with her own constant nourishment and not being as active as before pregnancy. As the weight increases, the pressure on the lumbar spine will increase exponentially, and the expanded uterus will increase the pressure on the lumbar nerves, causing back pain.

2. Overwork

After pregnancy, if the pregnant woman stands for a long time or overworks, the body will not be able to bear it and she will experience back pain.

3. Bad living habits

If a mother experiences back pain, she should recall her daily life to see if she has an incorrect sitting or sleeping posture, which puts a heavier burden on her lumbar spine. These bad habits can also cause back pain. Through the above introduction about having a baby, you should understand that lower back pain does not necessarily mean that you are going to have a baby, but this reason cannot be ruled out. After the due date and before the birth, normal phenomena will appear in the body to indicate signs of having a baby, so don’t worry. If no symptoms appear, you should go to the hospital for a check-up as soon as possible and listen to the doctor’s advice.
