Can the window of the maternity room be opened?

Giving birth in the hot summer and confinement are both very painful. You cannot open the windows for ventilation, nor can you open the windows to let in the cool breeze when it rains. Keeping the windows closed for a long time and sitting in a stuffy room without fans or air conditioners will make many mothers very painful. In fact, it is not necessary to open the windows for ventilation in the mother's room. You need to learn scientific confinement methods.

The weather is hot in summer and people sweat easily, so mothers should pay special attention to postpartum hygiene. First of all, in terms of the environment, it is necessary to ensure that the mother lives in a comfortable, quiet, bright and clean environment. The room temperature should be kept between 22 and 24°C, and the humidity should be kept at around 55%.

Be sure to ventilate the room. In the summer, the weather is hot, so it is best to ventilate the room for 20 to 30 minutes each in the morning and afternoon or in the morning and evening. However, it should be noted that it is best for the mother and baby to change rooms during ventilation. In addition, air conditioners or fans are commonly used in households in the summer, but they must not be blown directly at the mother and baby.

In terms of the personal hygiene of the mother, she can generally take a shower 3 days after delivery, provided that her physical strength allows. However, if it is a caesarean section, she must wait until the incision is completely healed and the stitches are removed before taking a shower. Before that, she can use warm water to scrub her body. The shower time for the mother should not be too long, preferably within 5 to 10 minutes. The water temperature should not be too hot or too cold, preferably around 45°C. No matter how hot it is in summer, the mother must not take a cold shower.

Please note that mothers cannot take a tub bath. Some elderly people think that postpartum women cannot brush their teeth, which is also wrong. You should know that postpartum women’s teeth are more susceptible to bacterial damage. It is recommended that mothers brush their teeth and rinse their mouths with warm water every morning and evening. In addition, the mother's clothes, especially underwear, must be changed frequently, and menstrual pads should also be changed frequently.

In addition, in terms of diet and lifestyle, the mother must maintain a regular life, get enough sleep, eat a fresh diet, avoid eating irritating foods, and avoid eating iced foods and cold drinks. Mothers can do some exercise during the confinement period, but they should not stand or squat for a long time.

Why do we need to observe confinement after giving birth? What is the purpose? Can I change my physique?

Due to heavy bleeding during childbirth, sweating, back pain and abdominal pain, the mother's physical strength is greatly depleted, and her qi, blood, muscles and bones are very weak. At this time, she is easily attacked by wind and cold, and needs some time to recuperate. Therefore, she must take a confinement month after delivery to recover her health. The purpose of confinement is to do moderate exercise and rest, proper food supplements and diet therapy during this period, which can restore the uterus to its pre-delivery size, and the qi and blood can be restored through conditioning, or even better than before, thus slowly changing the bad physical condition during this period.

2. What are the basic principles of confinement?

1 Be careful of cold and heat

As the temperature and humidity of the climate and living environment change, the clothing worn by the mother and the electrical equipment used indoors should be appropriately adjusted. The indoor temperature should be about 25 to 26 degrees Celsius, and the humidity should be about 50% to 60%. Long sleeves, long pants, and socks should be worn to avoid catching a cold or having the joints invaded by wind, cold, and moisture.

2. Proper work and rest

Moderate labor and rest are very helpful for the discharge of lochia and the recovery of muscles, bones and body shape. In the early days after delivery, when the mother feels weak, dizzy, and fatigued, she must rest in bed more. The time she gets up should not exceed half an hour. When her physical strength gradually recovers, the time can be extended a little, but the time is still limited to 1 to 2 hours to avoid standing or sitting for a long time, which will cause low back pain, leg pain, knee and ankle pain.
