Endometrial thickness of 9mm is normal

Endometrial thickness of 9mm is normal

Under normal circumstances, the thickness of a woman's endometrium is between 2mm and 10mm. The thickness of a woman's uterine wall changes with the menstrual period. Under normal circumstances, the uterine wall is about 7mm before menstruation. As long as there is no big deviation, it is considered to be of normal thickness. So, is an endometrial thickness of 9mm normal?

Is the thickness of the endometrium 9mm normal?

The thickness of a woman's uterine wall changes with the menstrual cycle. Under normal circumstances, the normal endometrial thickness is between 2mm and 10mm. It is thicker during ovulation and falls off during menstruation, leaving only the dermis. At present, most opinions believe that an endometrial thickness of 8mm-10mm is more suitable for pregnancy.

The uterine wall adheres to the embryonic jugular vein and has the function of protecting the placenta. During labor, the uterus contracts to prevent abnormal uterine bleeding. After the embryo falls out of the endometrium, the surface of the uterine wall, which is covered with blood clots and has uneven surfaces, will gradually become smooth and form a new uterine wall. The scar caused by the embryo fall will also heal smoothly in about a month after giving birth, and gradually recover to the appearance of pregnancy preparation, maintaining within normal limits.

Because every woman's physical fitness is different, and the standard of endometrial thickness is also different for every woman, it is recommended that you do an intravaginal B-ultrasound three days after the menstrual period ends to determine the actual thickness of the uterine wall. If the uterine wall is thick, menstrual cramps are more likely to occur, and it is difficult for sperm and egg to combine and implant. If the uterine wall is too thin, it can easily lead to less menstrual flow and even affect ovulation.

However, the thickness of the uterine wall cannot determine whether pregnancy is possible. The presence or absence of ovulation is the key to pregnancy. Because some women can still successfully implant the embryo despite thin uterine walls, while some women have difficulty in embryo implantation despite normal uterine walls. This requires the doctor's experience to make a judgment, and the possibility of other diseases must also be considered. There are many causes of infertility, not only due to problems with the thickness of the endometrium, but also other factors such as uterine and ovarian factors, bilateral fallopian tube factors, cervical factors, etc., which need to be clearly identified before they can be effectively treated.

The transformation of the uterine wall at each stage

1. Proliferative stage: approximately from the 5th to the 9th day of the menstrual cycle, the uterine wall is too thin, the glandular ducts are sparse, the glands are narrow and straight, and the glandular cavity surface is flat. During the 10th to 14th day of the menstrual cycle, the uterine wall thickens and becomes wavy, the glandular ducts and interstitial space proliferate significantly, and the number of glandular ducts begins to increase.

2. Metabolic period: From the 15th to the 19th day of the menstrual period, which is 1 to 5 days after ovulation, the uterine wall thickens again and the glandular duct further expands and bends. Around the 20th to 24th day of the menstrual cycle, that is, 6 to 10 days after ovulation, the uterine wall undergoes high metabolic activity, and the bending and expansion of the glandular ducts reach their peak.

3. At the end of metabolism, the thickness of the endometrium is about 5 to 6 mm.
