2. Treatment of uterine fibroids

1. Surgical treatment. There are individual differences in the size of uterine fibroids that require surgery, but generally speaking, uterine fibroids larger than 5cm indicate a more serious condition and require surgical removal. If the uterine fibroids are less than 5cm, drug treatment can be used to control the growth of the fibroids. Asymptomatic uterine fibroids do not require treatment.

2. Drug treatment is suitable for patients with uterine fibroids whose symptoms are mild, who are near menopause or whose systemic conditions are not suitable for surgery.

① Gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogues: inhibit hormone secretion, reduce estrogen to postmenopausal levels to relieve symptoms and inhibit the growth of fibroids and cause them to shrink. Commonly used drugs include leuprorelin 3.75 mg each time, or goserelin 3.6 mg each time.

②Other drugs: Mifepristone, 12.5 mg orally per day, can be used as preoperative medication or for early menopause.

Therefore, TCM treatment of uterine fibroids focuses on promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis, dispersing nodules and eliminating symptoms, supplemented by regulating qi and removing stagnation, strengthening the body and consolidating the foundation, in order to stop bleeding, eliminate tumors, and restore vitality.
