What causes left ovary pain?

Nowadays, many women have the habit of drinking, and even many young women often smoke and drink. Such behavior seems very chic, but it is actually very harmful to the ovaries and can easily lead to some ovarian diseases. There are also young women who do not know how to use contraception correctly and often take emergency contraceptives afterwards, which can also harm the health of the ovaries and uterus. When pain occurs on the left ovary, patients should focus on the following reasons.

What causes left ovary pain?

1. What is the cause of left ovarian pain?

1.1. The time of ovarian rupture is closely related to the female menstrual cycle, which is used as the main basis for diagnosis in medicine. About 80% of ovarian ruptures are corpus luteum cysts or corpus luteum ruptures, which usually occur after ovulation, one week after menstruation, and occasionally on the second day of menstruation. Patients with ovarian rupture generally have no history of ovarian dysfunction, and most of them have an ovulation cycle. Such patients do not have obvious abdominal pain, but the pelvic tenderness during bimanual examination is very obvious.

1.2. The mature ovarian follicle or corpus luteum may have damaged or bleeding walls due to some reasons. Severe patients may also suffer from massive intra-abdominal bleeding. It may be spontaneous rupture, acute or chronic appendicitis, or pelvic inflammation that causes ovarian congestion. Before menstruation, some platelets may be damaged due to anemia, infectious diseases, or malnutrition, as well as bleeding caused by changes in blood components. Of course, it is also possible that rupture is caused directly or indirectly by external forces, such as increased intra-abdominal pressure, sexual intercourse, etc.

2. Symptoms of left ovarian pain

Clinically, the symptoms include lower abdominal pain, lower abdominal discomfort, increased vaginal discharge, yellow vaginal discharge, abnormal vaginal odor, menstrual irregularities, and usually a firm and painless swelling in the lower abdomen, which sometimes causes pain. When cysts interfere with hormone production, symptoms such as irregular vaginal bleeding or increased hair growth may occur.

Experts warn that when the left ovarian cyst twists in the patient's body, there will be severe abdominal pain, abdominal distension, difficulty breathing, decreased appetite, nausea and fever. Larger cysts can put pressure on the area near the bladder, causing frequent urination and difficulty urinating.

3. How to check left ovarian pain

3.1 Physical Examination

In mild cases, there is only mild tenderness in the lower abdomen. In patients with right side, the tenderness point is located lower and inside of Mahalanobis' point. In severe cases, there is obvious rebound tenderness in the lower abdomen, but the abdominal muscle rigidity is not as strong as in generalized peritonitis.

3.2 Bimanual examination

There is tenderness in the fornix on both sides of the cervix when the cervix is lifted. The uterus is of normal size. When the uterus is painful to move and there is heavy internal bleeding, the adnexal area or posterior fornix may be felt to be swollen. Sometimes an enlarged ovary can be palpated.
