Reasons for unsuccessful artificial insemination

Reasons for unsuccessful artificial insemination

In life, many couples will experience infertility. When this happens, some couples will choose some assisted conception methods under the doctor's advice based on the cause of the infertility. Artificial insemination is a method used to assist conception when men are infertile. Although the technology of this method is now relatively mature, some couples still experience conception failure after implementing this method.

Reasons for unsuccessful artificial insemination

The main factors that lead to failed conception are:

1) The sperm quantity or quality cannot meet the requirements of artificial insemination.

2) Improper timing of artificial insemination.

3) No ovulation after artificial insemination.

4) Anti-sperm antibodies in the male or female partner.

5) The intrauterine environment is not suitable for embryo implantation, such as endometritis, intrauterine adhesions, endometrial polyps, foreign body residues in the uterine cavity, etc., which must be diagnosed and corrected through hysteroscopy.

6) Abnormal fallopian tubes or abdominal adhesions affect the combination of sperm and egg. Clinical signs such as chronic pelvic inflammatory disease and endometriosis cannot be found and must be diagnosed and corrected through laparoscopy.

7) The endocrine environment is poor and the embryo cannot develop.

There are many reasons for the failure of artificial insemination, some of which can be observed clinically and some cannot. Generally speaking, it takes 3-6 effective artificial inseminations to judge whether artificial insemination is effective.

Precautions for artificial insemination

For the sperm donor:

1. A comprehensive examination must be conducted, including various genetic diseases, infectious diseases, as well as the physical condition, appearance, IQ, physique, etc. at the time of sperm donation. Among them, hepatitis B surface antigen, blood type, etc. are the most important examination items. Such adverse genetic diseases will seriously affect the results of eugenics.

2. The sperm donor's files must be strictly managed and recorded to ensure privacy, and to avoid excessive use of the same person's semen to reduce the possibility of their offspring intermarrying. Generally speaking, if the semen of the same person has resulted in five successful pregnancies, it should be discontinued.

For the sperm recipient:

1. Physical examination is equally important. If a woman's overall condition is not suitable for artificial insemination, then from the perspective of eugenics, the doctor should recommend canceling the operation and communicate with the patient in a timely manner to jointly solve the problem.

2. After the fertilization operation is completed, do not get out of bed and walk around immediately. You should lie flat for at least 30 minutes to prevent the semen from leaking out. If necessary, you can use a pillow to slightly support your buttocks.

3. Be fully prepared mentally. If the sperm used for artificial insemination comes from one's husband, then there will not be much of a problem. However, if the sperm is from a third party, it may cause some ethical and legal disputes. Before accepting sperm donation, the husband, wife and family members on both sides must consider whether they can fully accept this "foreign" child and whether it will affect family harmony and love between husband and wife. They must be mentally prepared.

Related complications:

1. Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome: Some uncomfortable symptoms may occur during the use of drugs to promote ovulation, such as pleural effusion, oliguria, liver and kidney function damage, etc., which are more common in young, thin women or women with polycystic ovaries.

2. Multiple births: Drug-induced ovulation may increase the possibility of multiple pregnancies, but it can be reduced to one pregnancy by the tenth week of pregnancy.
