Will vasectomy affect menstruation?

Will vasectomy affect menstruation?

Sterilization is now a relatively convenient method of effective contraception. Sterilization is not only for men, but women can also undergo sterilization surgery to avoid pregnancy. However, some women are still relatively unfamiliar with this surgery, so they don’t quite understand the problems that may arise after the surgery. So today we are going to answer everyone’s questions and see if women will still have menstruation after vasectomy.

1. Will I still have my period after getting a vasectomy?

I will still have my period after getting a vasectomy.

Female sterilization is an artificial method of tying a woman's fallopian tubes to prevent the egg cell from meeting the sperm to form a fertilized egg. The formation of menstruation is due to the ovaries secreting enough estrogen, which causes the endometrium to thicken. When the egg does not meet the sperm, the endometrium will become loose and soft until it falls off and is discharged, thus forming menstruation. It is the ovaries and uterus that affect menstruation and menopause, but a sterilization operation only cuts off the fallopian tubes, leaving the uterus and ovaries intact. Therefore, you will still ovulate and menstruate every month, and your menstruation will not stop or be affected in your menstrual flow. So, you will still have your period even if you have a sterilization.

2. Will vasectomy affect menstruation?

Irregular menstruation. Many women have normal menstruation before having tubal ligation. However, after tubal ligation, menstrual cycle disorders, excessive or insufficient menstrual flow, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, and oligomenorrhea may occur. This is called menstrual disorder after tubal ligation.

Irregular bleeding between periods. This is due to the rupture of the follicle and the fluctuation of estrogen, which cannot maintain the growth of the endometrium, causing local ulceration and shedding of the surface layer of the endometrium, resulting in a small amount of breakthrough bleeding. This is the phenomenon of ovulation bleeding. After ovulation, the follicle quickly turns into a corpus luteum, which can secrete a certain amount of estrogen and progesterone, which can quickly repair the ruptured endometrium, and the bleeding will stop automatically. Therefore, the amount of bleeding during ovulation is generally very small, and it will stop automatically after a few hours or days. No treatment is required.

Emotional instability. Women will experience the following emotional changes after tubal ligation: tension and anxiety, irritability and frequent temper tantrums, and memory loss. There is a pessimistic and melancholic mood, manifested as depressed thoughts, silence, low mood, accompanied by poor appetite, weight loss, decreased libido, increased heart rate and other symptoms.

Sex life is affected. The main symptoms are decreased libido and unwillingness to engage in sexual intercourse.

Physical health problems. Chronic low back pain, abdominal pain, irregular menstruation, loss of strength, fatigue, weight loss, obesity, anorexia nervosa, nausea, etc.

3. Women who are suitable for ligation

Generally speaking, we recommend sterilization to the following two types of women:

1. Married women who already have children and both husband and wife voluntarily request sterilization surgery;

2. Women with severe heart disease, heart failure, chronic liver and kidney disease with poor liver and kidney function, and certain hereditary diseases who are not suitable for pregnancy can also undergo this surgery to achieve the effect of infertility.
