What is hcg dilution?

HCG gonadotropin is also called human chorionic villus. It enters the maternal blood after fertilization and then multiplies rapidly. By the 8th week of pregnancy, it will slowly decrease and will remain for a long time until the 18th to 20th week. So what does hcg dilution mean? Let’s take a look at it together below.

What does hcg dilution mean

The purpose of the diluent is that if the HCG value is too high, it will exceed the identification range of the testing equipment and no result can be given, so the diluent must be used for the subsequent test to be more accurate.

The normal β-HCG radioimmunoassay value is less than 3.1. If it exceeds 5, it can be considered a possible pregnancy, and can be confirmed in more than 10 pregnancy.

HCG may rise to over 2500IU/L during 35-50 days of pregnancy, and in women with multiple pregnancies, urine-HCG levels often exceed one. 9 days after giving birth or 25 days after abortion, blood cell HCG should return to normal. If it does not meet this condition, the possibility of abnormality should be considered. The initial diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy is mainly based on blood HCG (hcg gonadotropin). Because HCG is a special metabolism of pregnancy growth hormone, β-HCG can be used to help in the early diagnosis of unruptured ectopic pregnancy. The daily titer of villus increases by more than 66% every time 2 beta-HCG48 hours. If the increase exceeds 66% and the amount of HCG secreted by the normal trend of rapid increase continues the next day, it can be diagnosed as intrauterine pregnancy; if the increase is less than 66%, the possibility of ectopic pregnancy or incomplete intrauterine pregnancy is very high.

For pregnant women, the most dangerous things in the early stages of pregnancy are ectopic pregnancy and miscarriage. When these two situations occur, pregnant women will experience abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding, so it is very important to keep the fetus in the early stages of pregnancy.

Blood hCG test time

1. Confirm pregnancy - the first step is 8-10 days after intercourse

The best time to test blood hCG is 8-10 days after intercourse. At this time, the test can be used as a pregnancy test to diagnose whether you are pregnant. In addition, this test can also be used to confirm single or multiple pregnancies during the first three months of pregnancy.

2. Diagnosis of abnormal pregnancy: Test hCG content every 2 days to see if it doubles

After a woman becomes pregnant, an increase in the β-hCG value in the blood can be detected from the 9th to 11th day, and then the β-hCG value can double every two days. If the test finds a slow increase rate for two consecutive times, it may be caused by factors such as ectopic pregnancy, test tube embryo abnormalities, or delayed intrauterine language development.

If the abnormal pregnancy is a hydatidiform mole, the hCG concentration in the blood cells is much higher than the corresponding monthly value during a normal pregnancy. Therefore, this difference can be used as an auxiliary diagnosis of hydatidiform mole, usually in the first 3 months of pregnancy.

3. Down syndrome screening: 15-20 weeks of pregnancy

Down syndrome screening comprehensively calculates the risk of the fetus suffering from Down syndrome by testing the levels of AFP and β-hCG in venous blood. The best time to do this test is between 15 and 20 weeks of pregnancy.

4. Miscarriage diagnosis: 4 days after childbirth or 13 days after artificial abortion

Since the fetus has been delivered, the woman's blood hCG test should return to normal 4 days after giving birth or 13 days after an abortion.
