Can I eat ice cream during pregnancy?

Women are happy during pregnancy, but it is also very hard. In addition to dragging a tired body every day, there are also many taboos on eating, including food that causes heatiness and coldness. Even in the hot summer, you cannot eat ice cream, as it is bad for the fetus.

Reasons why pregnant women should not eat ice cream

1. Pregnant women have weak gastrointestinal function. Eating too much raw and cold food can easily cause sudden contraction of gastrointestinal blood vessels, reduced gastric juice secretion, reduced digestive function, and symptoms such as abdominal pain and diarrhea. Modern medical research shows that the fetus is very sensitive to cold stimulation. When a pregnant woman eats too much cold food, the fetus will become restless.

Although eating ice cream during pregnancy will not lead to premature birth or miscarriage, eating too much will definitely cause discomfort. After all, pregnancy is a special period.

2. The respiratory mucosa of pregnant women, such as the nose, pharynx, and trachea, are often congested and accompanied by edema. If they eat too much cold drinks such as ice cream, the congested blood vessels will suddenly contract and the blood will decrease, which can lead to a decrease in local resistance. Bacteria and viruses lurking in the throat, trachea, nasal cavity, and oral cavity can take advantage of the opportunity to enter the body, causing sore throat, cough, headache, etc. In severe cases, it can cause upper respiratory tract infection or induce tonsillitis.

Pregnant women eating too much ice cream can easily cause indigestion

3. Excessive consumption of popsicles and ice cream can damage the gastric mucosa, and frequent cold stimulation can cause the gastric mucosal blood vessels to constrict, reduce gastric juice secretion, cause decreased appetite and indigestion, and even cause stomach problems over time. Especially for those suffering from acute or chronic gastrointestinal diseases, they should eat less or not eat it.

4. Pregnant women who eat too much ice cream are prone to indigestion. Excessive intake of ice cream and cold drinks can not only cause vasoconstriction of the gastric mucosa and reduced gastric juice secretion, but also accelerate intestinal peristalsis after cold stimulation, affecting the body's absorption of nutrients, thereby causing gastrointestinal symptoms such as indigestion, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Moreover, after drinking a large amount of cold drinks, the throat mucosa will shrink when exposed to the cold, and the resistance will be reduced, allowing bacteria lurking in the throat to take advantage of the opportunity to enter, easily causing colds and other diseases. The germs in frozen foods must have been killed by low temperatures, so they are safe to eat. ”
