What complications may occur if you induce labor at four months?

In clinical practice, sometimes some unexpected situations will require pregnant women to undergo induced abortion at four months of pregnancy. Obviously, induced abortion at four months of pregnancy will definitely cause harm to the pregnant woman's body, and sometimes induced abortion will also cause a series of complications in the pregnant woman. So, what complications will induced abortion at four months cause? Let me introduce it to you below, I hope it will be helpful to everyone.

1. Bleeding after induced abortion. When the amount of bleeding after the fetus is delivered reaches more than 400 ml, it is called mid-term post-induction bleeding. If there is heavy bleeding in a short period of time, the patient may go into shock and his life may be in danger.

2. Birth canal injury. During the process of induced labor, due to strong uterine contractions, small cervical opening and poor elasticity, birth canal injuries such as posterior fornix, cervical opening and vaginal lacerations are often prone to occur. At this time, the laceration site should be clearly exposed and sutured immediately to achieve the purpose of hemostasis. Another serious injury is uterine rupture. The reason is that the fetal position is not clear before induced labor or the fetus is deformed, such as hydrocephalus, conjoined twins, etc., which hinders the descent of the fetus during delivery, but cannot be delivered from the vagina, eventually leading to uterine rupture. The rupture is mostly in the lower part of the uterus, because it is the thinnest after expansion. In addition, if there is a history of perforation during artificial abortion, too many artificial abortions, etc., there are old bruises on the uterine wall, and when giving birth again, uterine rupture is also likely to occur due to strong uterine contractions.

3. Amniotic fluid embolism. This is a relatively dangerous complication during forceps curettage and mid-term induction of labor. During induced labor, the cervical canal gradually opens, the cervical opening widens, and some blood vessels open. Strong uterine contractions increase the pressure in the uterine cavity, causing the fetal membrane to rupture, and some or most of the amniotic fluid to flow into the blood vessels. At this time, the patient has difficulty breathing, coughing, cyanosis of the face, irritability, chills, vomiting, cold sweats, chest tightness, and even convulsions. During the examination, the blood pressure dropped, the pulse increased, and there were lung sounds. If not treated in time, severe vaginal bleeding will occur, blood will not coagulate, and oliguria or even anuria will occur, which will endanger life.

4. Infection. During the process of induced labor or within 2 weeks of induced labor, if the mother has a fever, with the temperature reaching over 38°C, accompanied by chills, especially if the high fever persists for more than 24 hours after induced labor, it is considered a concurrent infection. When infection occurs concurrently, the patient may also have persistent lower abdominal pain, purulent or bloody vaginal discharge with a foul odor, and in severe cases, there may be a drop in blood pressure, a rapid and weak pulse, and the abdomen may refuse to be pressed and have tenderness and rebound pain.

To sum up, if a pregnant woman undergoes induced abortion at four months of pregnancy, it will cause many complications. Bleeding, infection, amniotic fluid embolism and birth canal injury are the four diseases that may occur when a pregnant woman undergoes induced abortion at four months of pregnancy. Therefore, pregnant women need to do a good job of pregnancy care in their daily lives.
