Why is vaginal ultrasound painful?

The vagina is the reproductive channel for women, and it is also the tissue for women to enjoy the pleasure of sexual life. Although the vagina has a simple structure, it is very important for women's health. It is a high-incidence site for gynecological diseases, and women need to focus on protection. Regular vaginal examinations are very necessary. For example, vaginal ultrasound examination is a popular examination method. However, why do some women feel pain when doing vaginal ultrasound?

Vaginal ultrasound is not painful.

Vaginal ultrasound is a vaginal B-ultrasound, which is a method of ultrasonic diagnosis by inserting the B-ultrasound probe into the vagina or rectum. It is particularly suitable for observing pelvic organs in the small pelvis. Compared with abdominal B-ultrasound, vaginal ultrasound images are clearer and more realistic, the results are more accurate, and the person being examined does not have to "hold urine". This way you can explore the vagina, cervix, and clearly observe the situation inside the uterus. It is painless, and the probe itself is smooth and contains lubricant, which helps reduce damage to the local mucous membrane.

Vaginal ultrasound is particularly suitable for ovulation monitoring, diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy, uterine space-occupying diseases, and diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome and chocolate cysts. For those who have had sexual intercourse, a vaginal examination can be performed, and for virgins, a rectal ultrasound examination can be performed.

Vaginal ultrasound is an ultrasound examination that enters the vagina. This examination is helpful in discovering some small lesions and has a high accuracy rate. Moreover, since it does not require holding urine, it has become the choice of many women today. However, it is much more expensive than ordinary ultrasound (black and white B-ultrasound). The diagnosis rate of color ultrasound is not bad, but like black and white B-ultrasound, it also requires holding urine.

How to do vaginal ultrasound

1. Usually it is performed after a routine gynecological examination.

2. Ask the patient to urinate and take the lithotomy position.

3. Cover the vaginal probe with a disposable condom and apply disinfectant coupling agent inside and outside the condom.

4. The operator wears gloves, holds the probe handle with his right hand, and slowly inserts the probe into the vaginal vault.

5. Tilt, push, pull, and rotate the probe handle during operation to observe the entire pelvic structure.

6. The patient needs to lie flat on the bed, relax the body and don't be nervous. Excessive nervousness will affect the examination results.
