What tests should be done after medical abortion?

Medical abortion is a form of abortion that uses drugs to abort the fetus in the pregnant woman's womb. Many tests need to be done before the birth, such as B-ultrasound, blood tests, heart and liver tests, etc., to test whether the pregnant woman is suitable for medical abortion. However, not only is an examination required before medical abortion, but a follow-up examination is also required after medical abortion. So what kind of examination is performed in the follow-up examination after medical abortion? Let me introduce it below.

Medical abortion is abortion by medicine, and the commonly used drugs are mifepristone and misoprostol. For the vast majority of pregnant women, there are no adverse reactions after medical abortion. However, for their own safety, it is generally recommended that women undergo a gynecological examination one week after the abortion. Generally, we need to do a blood test for HCG for the examination. We usually go to the hospital for a follow-up examination to see if there is any residue, which is mainly checked through blood HCG test and B-ultrasound. Generally, HCG blood test does not require fasting. Under normal circumstances, there is no need to draw blood for a follow-up examination after medical abortion, but we need to hold urine to perform an abdominal ultrasound to see if there are any remnants of fetal membrane in the uterus and to see if the abortion is clean. Generally, checking these two items after medical abortion can achieve the desired purpose. The above content is for reference only. Please refer to the doctor's face-to-face consultation for specific medication and treatment instructions.

Precautions after medical abortion

You must pay attention to good care and maintenance after medical abortion. First of all, you should choose a regular hospital for abortion surgery and get enough rest after the abortion, at least 3 to 4 days. Secondly, anti-inflammatory drugs must be taken on time and in the correct dosage. Things to note after medical abortion:

1. After taking the medicine for medical abortion, if there is vaginal bleeding, continue to take the medicine and do not stop taking it. Use a spittoon for urination and defecation, and pay attention to whether there is any tissue discharged. If you have any, you need to see a doctor for examination. If vaginal bleeding is more than twice the amount of menstrual flow, you should seek medical attention immediately and be closely observed, and the obstetrician and gynecologist will handle it as appropriate.

2. Some pregnant women experience mild nausea, vomiting, dizziness, fatigue, lower abdominal pain and other discomforts after taking medication for medical abortion. Some may also develop a rash, but generally no treatment is required.

3. At 8 a.m. on the fourth day, come to the hospital on an empty stomach or 2 hours after a meal and take 0.6 g (3 tablets) of rice essence orally with warm water (not exceeding 30°C), rest in bed for 2 hours, and be observed in the outpatient clinic for 6 hours. Pay attention to whether there is any discharge of pregnancy products after taking the medicine, bleeding and its side effects.

4. Rest for two weeks after the abortion and keep the vagina clean. Do not take a bath in a tub for two weeks after surgery. Sexual intercourse is strictly prohibited within one month.

5. When taking medical abortion medication, you cannot take salicylates, indomethacin and other analgesics at the same time.

6. If no tissue is discharged after 6 hours of medication, you can go home without any abnormalities or special circumstances. If there is heavy bleeding, see a doctor at any time after medical abortion, and bring the discharged tissue to the hospital for doctor's identification or send for medical examination.

7. Those who take medication for medical abortion need to go to the hospital for follow-up examinations on the 8th, 15th and 43rd day after taking the medication to see how their recovery is going.
