What should I eat when I have menstrual pain?

Menstruation is a normal physiological phenomenon for women. Most women will experience abdominal pain to a greater or lesser extent during their menstruation, especially in the first two days of menstruation. Not only will they have abdominal pain, but they will also have back pain. Some women will even break out in cold sweats due to abdominal pain during menstruation. If a woman has severe abdominal pain during menstruation, she must seek medical attention in time. Pain during menstruation can also be relieved through diet or massage.

What should I eat when I have menstrual pain?

1. Maintain a balanced diet: Eat less sweet or salty foods, as they will make you bloated and slow down your movements. Eat more vegetables, fruits, chicken, fish, and try to eat small meals frequently.

2. Do not eat foods containing caffeine, as it will make you nervous and cause discomfort during menstruation. The oil contained in coffee will also irritate the small intestine.

3. Milk and honey: Drinking a cup of hot milk with a spoonful of honey before going to bed every night can relieve or even eliminate the pain of dysmenorrhea, and the effect is excellent.

4. Bananas contain vitamin B6, which can stabilize emotions and relieve abdominal pain. You may want to eat more of them when you have dysmenorrhea.

5. Pay attention to dietary taboos: Try not to eat raw, cold, spicy and other irritating foods before and during menstruation, such as ice cream, barbecue, chili peppers, etc.

6. When menstruation comes, some blood is lost. The main components of blood are plasma protein, potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium and other inorganic salts. This means that a portion of protein and inorganic salts are lost every time menstruation comes. Therefore, in principle, within 1-5 days after the menstruation is over, nutrients such as protein, minerals and some blood tonics should be supplemented.

During this period, you can choose foods and medicines that are both good for the skin and beautiful and have the effect of nourishing blood and activating blood circulation, such as milk, eggs, quail eggs, beef, mutton, pig pancreas, water chestnut, spinach, cherry, longan meat, lychee meat, carrots, apples, angelica, safflower, peach blossom, cooked rehmannia, and polygonatum.

What should I do if I have stomach pain during menstruation?

1. Stay warm

Drinking a hot drink or applying a hot water bottle to your lower abdomen can help warm your body. Keeping the body warm can accelerate blood circulation, effectively relieve uterine spasms and pelvic congestion, thereby achieving a pain-relieving effect.

2. Acupressure

The feet contain acupressure points that are believed to be connected to the qi pathways in the pelvic area. Gently pinch with your thumb and fingertips, and move up along the Achilles tendon to the calf muscle. Acupressure for a few minutes can effectively relieve pain.

3. Do yoga

Yoga can also help relieve menstrual cramps. Kneel down with your knees bent, sitting on your heels. Rest your forehead on the ground and stretch your arms out at your sides. Maintain this position until you feel uncomfortable and your dysmenorrhea symptoms are relieved.

4. Moxibustion

Choose acupoints such as Sanyinjiao and Zusanli, and hang the moxa stick at a height of about 3 cm from the acupoint to make the local area warm without burning pain. Massage each acupoint for about 10-15 minutes, until a blush appears on the skin.

5. Taking painkillers

When menstrual cramps begin, women can take pain relievers with milk or food. The painkillers take effect in about 20-30 minutes and last for 12 hours. This method is not recommended for long-term use.
