Why do women bleed heavily?

The so-called heavy bleeding often occurs during childbirth, and many years ago, heavy bleeding was more common, mainly because the medical technology at that time was not very developed and could not properly deal with some sudden situations. Relatively speaking, cases of heavy bleeding are much less common now, but they do still exist. So the question is, why do women have heavy bleeding?

Uterine weakness

Some women suffer from postpartum hemorrhage due to uterine weakness. After the placenta is separated, the small blood vessels in the uterus need to be contracted and compressed by the muscles of the uterus to stop bleeding. However, the uterus is weak and this feeling of pressure disappears. Therefore, women experience symptoms of postpartum hemorrhage.

Placenta retained in uterus

When a woman gives birth, if the placenta in the uterus is not completely expelled and some remains, then when the fetus is delivered, the pressure in the uterus decreases, blocking the blood flow to the placenta, causing the placenta to separate from the fetus after birth. However, sometimes the placenta does not separate at all, which causes bleeding after delivery. There are postpartum hemorrhage caused by placenta accreta and postpartum hemorrhage caused by accessory placenta. Women should pay special attention to it.

Birth canal laceration

If a woman's birth canal is cracked during delivery, she may also experience postpartum bleeding, including injuries to the lower uterine segment, cervix, vagina, and vulva. Of course, bleeding from the bladder, rectum or anus may also cause bleeding.

Uterine inversion

Because the placenta is too tightly attached, the uterus does not contract well, and the placenta grows right at the top of the uterus, when the umbilical cord is pulled out of the placenta, the top of the uterus will also be sunken. In severe cases, the entire uterus will be turned out of the vagina, causing heavy bleeding.

Uterine rupture

If a woman has surgery during childbirth, has a difficult delivery, or had a caesarean section for her previous birth, it may cause uterine rupture. Therefore, there will be heavy bleeding during the second delivery.
