Vulvar atheroma symptoms

Vulvar atheroma symptoms

Female vulvar lipoma is a tumor composed of benign mature fat cells, which usually appears in the vulva, mons pubis and labia. The tumors vary in size and protrude under the skin. Most of them are sessile, soft polyp-shaped and pink in appearance. The occurrence of vulvar atheroma may be closely related to lipid metabolism disorders and is more common in women of childbearing age. If the tumor is small and there are no symptoms, no treatment is necessary.

1. Causes

Vulvar lipomas arise from the adipose tissue of the labia majora or mons pubis and may be related to lipid metabolism disorders.

2. Clinical manifestations

Vulvar lipoma can occur at any age, but is more common in women of childbearing age. The tumor grows slowly and is located in the subcutaneous fat tissue of the labia majora and mons pubis. It is painless. When the tumor is small, there are no discomfort symptoms. When the tumor is large, walking difficulties and sexual life difficulties occur. If the tumor extends along the vesico-vaginal septum to the paravaginal tissue, it may hinder delivery.

3. Differential Diagnosis

1. Liposarcoma

It is nonspecific and is mostly characterized by pain in the liver area, fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, and a palpable mass in the upper abdomen. Jaundice and peritoneal effusion rarely occur. The tumor is ellipsoidal or irregular in shape, soft in texture, and is only discovered when it is large in size. The cut surface is grayish yellow or grayish white, with common necrotic areas that are easily softened and fragile.

2. Vulvar neurofibroma

They grow slowly, occur painlessly after puberty, rarely become malignant, and enlarge significantly during pregnancy. Both are soft lumps. The vulvar neurofibroma tumor protrudes significantly from the skin surface and appears as a spherical or pedunculated hernia sac-like mass. The tumor can be pressed into the skin with the fingertips, and the tumor has obvious elasticity.

Complications

Concurrent lipomas in other parts of the body. Lipoma is a benign tumor formed by the proliferation of mature adipose tissue. It can be single or multiple and can occur anywhere on the body, but is most common on the shoulders, back, and abdomen. It is more common in adults aged 40 to 50. The tumor is soft, round or lobed, located under the skin and can be pushed; the tumors vary in size, some are as big as a date and can only be felt by hand, while the larger ones may bulge out from the skin surface, but the surface skin remains normal.

5. Treatment

1. Small, asymptomatic, and harmless lipomas do not require treatment.

2. If the lipoma is large and causes discomfort in walking and difficulty in sexual life, it should be surgically removed.

3. If the lipoma is suspected to be malignant, a tissue biopsy should be performed to confirm the diagnosis, and then a combination of surgical resection and radiotherapy should be used for treatment.

6. Prevention

Actively prevent and treat lipid metabolism disorders. Lipid metabolism disorders are often related to a diet that is too greasy and high in calories, and may also be related to genetics. Therefore, dietary control is very important in prevention. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins, eat a light and low-salt diet, and use more cooking methods such as steaming, stewing, and boiling. In particular, control the intake of meat (especially fatty meat) and other foods that can increase blood lipids in the body.
