Why does it hurt when my nipples are touched?

With the increasing number of breast diseases in recent years, female friends are paying more and more attention to their breasts. As long as they feel uncomfortable, they will go to the hospital for a check-up to determine whether they have any disease. Most women don’t know why their nipples hurt when touched. In fact, nipple pain may be caused by menstruation or friction from an inappropriate bra. Don’t worry too much.

1. Why does the nipple hurt when touched?

In life, many women experience pain in their nipples when they are touched, which causes many inconveniences to their normal lives. So, why does the nipple hurt when it is touched? Generally speaking, the cause of breast pain indicates that there may be a lesion in the breast area. At this time, the patient should pay attention to breast health and go to the hospital as soon as possible to find out the specific reason why the nipple hurts when it is touched.

Some patients with breast pain, because they cannot find the cause of the disease, think they have "breast cancer". In fact, there are many reasons for breast pain. Temporary breast pain caused by physiological changes in women at different times is medically called "physiological breast pain". Why does the nipple hurt when touched?

1. Breast pain during puberty: The earliest breast pain in girls.

It usually occurs between the ages of 9 and 13, when girls' breasts begin to develop, with the nipples first swelling and a slight pain. After menarche, it will disappear on its own as the breasts mature during puberty.

2. Premenstrual breast pain: Many women experience fullness, hardness, and tenderness in the breasts during menstruation. In severe cases, the breasts may become swollen and painful even with a slight vibration or collision, and the original granules or nodules may become more obvious. This is caused by increased estrogen levels in the body before menstruation, breast hyperplasia, and edema of the breast interstitial tissue. After the menstrual period, the above changes disappear. Experts suggest that nipple pain in women is often a symptom of breast disease. If nipple pain occurs frequently, you should go to the hospital for diagnosis as soon as possible.

2. Will breast hyperplasia cause nipple pain?

Patients with breast hyperplasia are afraid of pain, so one question they repeatedly mention when seeing a doctor is: Will breast hyperplasia cause nipple pain? Experts say that when breast hyperplasia occurs, most patients will experience pain in the breast area, but a few patients do not feel any pain in the breast area. Therefore, whether breast hyperplasia will cause nipple pain requires a careful diagnosis by a doctor.

1. Breast lumps: Single or multiple lumps in one or both breasts, mostly located on the outer and upper part of the breast, in the form of flakes, nodules, granules or cords, with flakes being the most common. The lumps have unclear boundaries, are medium or slightly hard, are movable and have no adhesion to surrounding tissues, may be tender, and vary in size, ranging from as small as sand grains to larger than 3-4CM. Breast lumps increase in size before menstruation and decrease in size and soften after menstruation.

2. Breast pain: general or bilateral breast distension, tingling or dull pain. The pain is so severe that you cannot touch or walk. The pain is mainly in the swelling of the breasts and can radiate to the armpits, chest, shoulders, back, and upper limbs. Some also present as nipple pain or itching. The pain fluctuates with the mood and menstrual cycle, often aggravated before menstruation or when you are angry or depressed. The pain is significantly reduced or disappears after menstruation.

3. Associated symptoms : Patients often feel depressed or irritable, and may also experience dysmenorrhea, irregular menstruation, etc. A small number of patients have brown or light yellow liquid flowing out of the nipples.
