How long does it take for the wound to heal after cesarean delivery?

Cesarean section, also known as caesarean section, is also an operation that women need to undergo during childbirth. The fetus is taken out directly through caesarean section. This operation is also to help many patients who cannot give birth normally. The wound needs to recover slowly within a short time after the operation, otherwise the wound will become stinging and itchy, and even infected. Generally, these processes should be paid attention to during the wound healing process.

The wound healing process

First of all, we need to briefly understand how wounds heal. There are three stages:

1. Inflammatory stage : The wound bleeds and forms blood clots, which are continuously filled with fibrin;

2. Granulation stage : New capillaries and fibroblasts begin to grow and form granulation tissue;

3. Shaping period : Collagen fibers continue to increase, granulation tissue slowly turns into fibrous tissue, wound scars form and harden, and then "shaping" begins.

The above is just a basic introduction. Mainly, I want to tell you that during these stages, be careful to avoid infection, pressure, traction, and nutritional deficiency, otherwise it will affect wound healing.

How to make wounds heal quickly and well

Let’s get to the point. Without further ado, I have listed the techniques and precautions that can help your wound heal better.

1. The most important thing is to ensure that the wound is sterile. One week after a cesarean section, a sterile dressing will usually be placed on the wound. Don't always uncover it and don't be too curious.

2. Abdominal band (important). Regarding the abdominal belt, use the one given by the hospital, because it is a medical abdominal belt, which is a medical device with strict design specifications and scope of use, and is different from the ones we buy on the market! This type is more suitable for postpartum wounds. You must wear it properly as the doctor says. It is very protective to the wound, can effectively reduce wound tension, make it less painful, and promote wound healing.

The doctor will give you advice on how long to use the bandage. Generally speaking, it can be used for a maximum of 12 hours a day. But I would personally recommend that you keep it tied up for the first day after surgery. You can ask your doctor.

3. Don’t cover the wound. Women sweat a lot after giving birth. If they cover themselves too thickly, they will sweat even more and the wound will easily get wet, which will increase the risk of infection.

4. Pay attention to abdominal pressure. When getting up, coughing, laughing or vomiting, try to apply pressure around the wound to prevent it from splitting or pulling on the growing tissue.

5. Do not eat food that is easy to produce gas before ventilation. Avoid those foods that are high in starch, protein, and sugar. Too much gas will cause great pressure on the wound...

6. After ventilation, pay attention to eating high-protein foods during the wound healing period. High protein is the main raw material for wound tissue healing and is very good for wound healing. As long as you don't get indigestion, you can still eat more.

7. Do not eat spicy food. Do not eat irritating foods such as onions, garlic, and peppers during the wound healing period! It will irritate the wound.
