How long does it take for the milk to go down?

As we all know, breastfeeding is the healthiest, most nutritious and most acceptable way of feeding for the baby's stomach and intestines. However, other problems may arise after breastfeeding, such as: How to stop breastfeeding after the baby is weaned? How long will it take for the milk to subside? etc. Generally speaking, after weaning, women will feel breast pain or develop hard lumps in their breasts. This is a normal phenomenon and the duration of the symptoms may vary due to differences in individual physical conditions.

We all know that breast milk is the best food for babies, but relying solely on breast milk cannot satisfy the baby at all. When the baby reaches a certain stage, he can be fed with complementary food. Gradually, many babies began to lose interest in breast milk, and many mothers began to make plans to wean their babies. So, how many days will it take for the milk to subside? It will take a few days for the milk to subside.

It usually takes about a week, and weaning should be gradual. The production of milk is the result of the combined action of prolactin and the lactation reflex. The baby's sucking stimulates the nerve endings of the nipple and transmits the stimulation information to the anterior pituitary gland, causing it to secrete prolactin. During the weaning process, the baby sucks less time and frequency, and the secretion of prolactin also decreases. This is a natural process. Therefore, the key to weaning is to reduce stimulation to the breast nipples. In addition to reducing sucking, avoid letting the baby touch the breasts; appropriately control the amount of water intake in the diet; when the breasts are swollen and uncomfortable, you can squeeze out a small amount of milk, but you should not over-squeeze to avoid stimulation and excessive milk secretion; you can also use ice packs to cool the breasts to reduce discomfort; in addition, you can also use some medications to stop milk production under the guidance of a doctor.

1. When weaning, you can use the swelling method. Let your breasts swell and endure the pain. After about a week, the breasts will swell back. You must be patient during the weaning period and avoid letting the baby suck intermittently or expressing milk due to bloating and pain. Doing so will inevitably prolong the weaning time. If you experience breast pain during self-treatment of milk withdrawal, you can apply a warm towel and massage from the base of the breast to the nipple.

2. The weaning method of swelling is quite uncomfortable and takes a long time. To reduce the pain, you can take weaning medication. Different measures should be taken according to the specific situation. First of all, you should stop drinking large amounts of soup, reduce nutrition, and avoid eating stewed chicken, stewed meat, or nutritious medicinal food. Then medication can be used to stop milk secretion.
