Is it normal for leucorrhea to be sticky like snot and have no odor?

In addition to observing whether they have gynecological diseases through vaginal and gynecological examinations, people can also judge by the leucorrhea that occurs every month. Normal leucorrhea should be viscous. Occasionally, if the leucorrhea is found to be too viscous and like snot, and has no odor, you should consider whether it is normal. You need to go to the hospital for a routine leucorrhea test, because mild symptoms may be the beginning of a gynecological disease.

Definition/Thick Leucorrhea

The formation of leucorrhea is closely related to estrogen. In each menstrual cycle, the quality and quantity of leucorrhea change as the secretion of estrogen varies. Therefore, sometimes it is inevitable that the leucorrhea will be thick. Generally, the secretion of estrogen reaches its peak between two menstrual periods (equivalent to the ovulation period). Excessive estrogen stimulates the cervical glands to secrete more mucus, so the leucorrhea at this time is abundant and transparent, sticky like egg white and can be pulled into threads, and the vulva feels moist. After the ovulation of the follicle, progesterone increases and inhibits the secretion of cervical mucus. At this time, the leucorrhea is less in amount and thicker.

Symptoms/Thick Leucorrhea

1. Colorless, transparent, sticky leucorrhea : Similar to egg white, or slightly turbid, but except for the increased viscosity of the leucorrhea, there are rarely other symptoms. This type of leucorrhea is more common in chronic cervicitis, endocervicitis and after the use of estrogen.

2. Yellow mucous leucorrhea : seen in cervical erosion, chronic cervicitis, etc. It is a thick leucorrhea caused by mild infection.

3. White mucous leucorrhea : The properties are the same as normal, but the amount is increased. This type of leucorrhea occurs after the use of estrogen or when the pelvic cavity is congested. It is caused by increased secretion of cervical glands and vaginal mucosa.

If you find that your vaginal discharge increases, or is accompanied by changes in color, texture, or odor, such as thick vaginal discharge, you should be alert and go to the hospital as soon as possible for a detailed gynecological examination and routine vaginal discharge tests, combined with a doctor's examination, to determine the cause. Leucorrhea is routinely used to check for the presence of Trichomonas and Candida in the vagina, and can also determine the cleanliness of the vagina.

Causes/Thick Leucorrhea

1. Moderate to severe cervical erosion. The thick leucorrhea is caused by infection caused by the invasion of pathogens. Unclean sexual life, multiple abortions, excessive cleaning, etc. can all lead to cervical erosion.

2. Fungal vaginitis. The cause of this thick leucorrhea is infection with the pathogen Candida albicans, which often occurs in women who use hormones and antibiotics for a long time, diabetics and pregnant women. The main routes of transmission are sexual intercourse, baths, bath towels, etc.

3. Trichomonas vaginitis. This thick leucorrhea is caused by the pathogen Trichomonas vaginalis, which is transmitted through sexual intercourse or indirectly.
