What are the causes of pelvic pain in pregnant women?

We all know how hard it is for women to give birth. During pregnancy, carrying a big belly all day long will put a lot of pressure on the mother's legs and pelvis. And you have to be careful about this and not do that during pregnancy. When it comes to giving birth, it's like walking through the gates of hell. And after giving birth, there are also all kinds of pains. But the key thing is pelvic pain in pregnant women, which is the most unbearable. So what are the causes of pelvic pain in pregnant women?

What is pelvic pain?

Pain in the back of the pelvis is called "pelvic area pain." Pelvic area pain is sometimes called "sacroiliac pain" because the sacroiliac joints are the source of the problem. Pain in the pelvic area is often misdiagnosed as sciatica. Only a small number of pregnant women will suffer from sciatica, about 1%. It is now known that most lower back or leg pain experienced by pregnant women is due to pain in the pelvic area. If you feel pain in or around the pubic bone in the front of your pelvis, you may have symphysis pubis separation, which is related to the ligaments in this area.

What happens to your pelvis during pregnancy?

During pregnancy, your body produces a hormone called relaxin, which relaxes the ligaments in your pelvis and other joints. This helps your baby pass smoothly through your pelvis during labor. Therefore, during your pregnancy and immediately after having a baby, these joints may move more than usual.

Why do pregnant women have pelvic pain?

Ligament relaxation, coupled with the major changes your body undergoes during pregnancy, such as weight gain, abdominal distension, and forward protrusion, increases the strain on your pelvic joints, ligaments, and muscles. Your body changes after pregnancy include your posture, muscle strength, and the way the joints on both sides of your pelvis move. Normally, when you lie down, stand up, or walk, the joints of your pelvis are in a tight, or stable, position. It is generally believed that when pregnant women with pelvic pain do these movements, their pelvis will not be as stable, or the pelvis will not fit well, resulting in pelvic swelling or pain. It is said that about half of pregnant women will experience more or less back pain or pelvic pain during pregnancy, and 1/4 of women who have had a baby before will experience this phenomenon.

What are the symptoms of pelvic pain:

Pelvic pain is often unilateral and may be concentrated primarily in the buttocks. You may feel pain that quickly shifts from one side to the other, or have overall back pain or pain in the front of the pelvis. Pelvic area pain may feel like a stabbing pain in your buttocks or radiate down the back of your leg. You may also experience hip pain. One or both legs may become weak, and you may have trouble lifting your legs, especially when lying down. How is pelvic pain diagnosed?

Pain in the pelvic area during pregnancy is sometimes diagnosed as sciatica. If possible, it is best to consult a specialist in joint diseases. If you see a chiropractor or osteopath, be sure to see one who is experienced in treating pregnant patients. Your doctor should assess your pelvic stability and pain. He'll also check your back and hips to make sure the problem isn't with the joints in those areas. At the same time, the doctor will carefully check the function of your abdominal, back, pelvic and hip muscles.
