Will the fetus suffer from lack of oxygen during pregnancy?

Will the fetus suffer from lack of oxygen during pregnancy?

Pregnant women may suffer from hypoxia due to accidental injuries or reactions to medications during pregnancy. Fetal hypoxia will lead to insufficient oxygen in the uterus, inability to breathe and survive normally, and may cause brain damage to the child. This situation will not usually occur. If you feel something is wrong with your body, you need to have regular check-ups to prevent problems.

How long does it take for a fetus to suffer brain damage due to lack of oxygen?

It is uncertain how long it will take for fetal hypoxia to cause brain damage. Fetal hypoxia means that the fetus does not have enough oxygen in the uterus, or is unable to absorb oxygen due to special reasons and shows signs of hypoxia, endangering the health and life of the fetus. The brain damage here refers to infant brain damage and non-progressive brain damage caused by various reasons from before birth to one year old. There are many factors that cause brain damage, fetal hypoxia is one of them.

But this does not mean that the fetus will suffer brain damage as soon as it suffers from hypoxia. The brain damage caused by fetal hypoxia is closely related to the duration of fetal hypoxia, the severity of fetal hypoxia, the fetus's tolerance to hypoxia, and changes in environmental factors. These may affect the time it takes for fetal hypoxia to cause brain tissue damage. Therefore, it is uncertain how long it will take for fetal hypoxia to cause brain damage.

What damage does fetal hypoxia cause to brain tissue? Hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy is the leading cause of death among all factors in the sequence of perinatal deaths, with fetal intrauterine hypoxia developing into neonatal hypoxic-ischemic diseases. Clinical manifestations are mild: symptoms are most obvious within 24 hours after birth, including indifference, irritability, and excitement. Symptoms decrease or disappear after 3 to 5 days, and there are rarely any neurological sequelae. Moderate: Symptoms are most obvious within 24 to 72 hours after birth, including drowsiness, convulsions, hypotonia, and small pupils.

Gradually recover after 1 to 2 weeks.

Severe: Symptoms are most obvious 72 hours or more after birth, including coma, hypotonia, and fixed pupils. There are often neurological sequelae. Diagnostic history: history of fetal distress or intrapartum asphyxia. Clinical manifestations: changes in consciousness, muscle tone, reflexes, bulging anterior fontanelle, convulsions, etc.
