Can pregnant women eat ice cream in the early stages?

You can eat ice cream in the early stages of pregnancy but eat less, because the stomach of expectant mothers is more sensitive during pregnancy. Eating cold things will cause the gastrointestinal blood vessels to suddenly contract, causing symptoms such as indigestion, loss of appetite, and diarrhea. The baby in the belly is also very sensitive to cold things, so expectant mothers must not affect their own health or cause discomfort to the baby because of temporary comfort.

It is best for pregnant mothers to eat less cold drinks for the following three reasons:

Reason 1: During pregnancy, pregnant women have a high metabolism and produce more heat than ordinary people. In summer, pregnant women are more afraid of heat than ordinary people. Many expectant mothers like to eat cold drinks in summer, but this is actually bad for their health. Because during pregnancy, the gastrointestinal tract is extremely sensitive to cold and hot stimuli. Eating cold drinks can cause sudden contraction of gastrointestinal blood vessels, reduced gastric juice secretion, and decreased digestive function, thereby causing loss of appetite, indigestion, diarrhea, and even stomach cramps and severe abdominal pain.

Reason 2: Because the respiratory mucosa of pregnant women, such as the nose, pharynx, and trachea, are usually congested and edematous, if pregnant women eat a lot of cold drinks in the summer, they will be greedy for cold drinks, and the congested blood vessels will suddenly contract, and blood flow will decrease, which can lead to a decrease in local resistance, allowing bacteria and viruses lurking in the throat, trachea, nasal cavity, and oral cavity to take advantage of the opportunity to enter, causing sore throat, cough, headache, etc. In severe cases, it can also cause upper respiratory tract infection or lead to tonsillitis, etc.

Reason 3: Some people have found that the fetus in the womb is also sensitive to cold stimulation. When pregnant women drink cold water or eat cold drinks, the fetus will become restless in the uterus and fetal movements will become frequent. Therefore, pregnant women must be moderate in eating cold drinks and must not affect their own health and cause discomfort to the fetus due to excessive cold food. From this we can see that pregnant women can eat some cold drinks, but they must not eat too much. Because cold food entering the body will cause blood vessels to constrict, reducing the blood supply from the placenta to the baby, which will affect the baby's development. Therefore, it is better for pregnant women not to eat ice cream in summer.
