Why do miscarriages occur?

Habitual miscarriage is very distressing for pregnant women. There are many reasons for habitual miscarriage, such as hormone disorders, uterine diseases, or chronic diseases, which can easily lead to habitual miscarriage. In addition, some bad habits in daily life are also important causes of habitual miscarriage. For example, women have the habit of smoking and drinking, which can pose a great threat to the fetus.

Clinical manifestations of habitual abortion

The clinical manifestations of habitual abortion are the same as those of general abortion, and it also goes through several stages: threatened abortion, inevitable abortion, incomplete or complete abortion. In the early stage, it may only manifest as a little vaginal bleeding or slight lower abdominal pain. The bleeding may last for several days or weeks and the amount of blood is small. Once vaginal bleeding increases, abdominal pain worsens, and examination shows that the cervix is dilated, or even the fetal sac is blocking the cervix, miscarriage is inevitable. If all the products of conception are expelled, it is called complete abortion; if only part of the products of conception are expelled and some remain in the uterine cavity, it is called incomplete abortion and requires immediate uterine curettage.

6 major causes of habitual miscarriage

Reason 1: Hormone imbalance

Normal ovulation depends on the normal secretion of various hormones, each of which plays an important role. 15% of patients with habitual miscarriage have symptoms of menstrual hormone imbalance, that is, excessive or insufficient secretion of one or more hormones. The most common situations are problems with progesterone and androgen.

Reason 2: Uterine disease

Problems with the tissues inside the uterus can also cause miscarriage, and women often don't discover these problems until they become pregnant. Uterine fibroids are one of the culprits. Most uterine fibroids grow on the outer wall of the uterus and therefore do not pose any threat to pregnancy. However, fibroids that grow in the uterus will take up the space needed for embryo development and affect the blood supply to the embryo. Another uterine disorder that can affect pregnancy is the septum, which prevents the egg from implanting properly and blocks blood flow to the placenta.

Reason 3: Chronic disease

Maintaining good health during pregnancy is crucial, but it can be difficult for women with chronic conditions. 6% of habitual miscarriages are caused by severe diabetes, thyroid disorders, or heart, kidney, or liver diseases. But poor maternal health does not mean you can't raise a healthy baby. Pregnant women with chronic diseases can give birth normally under the guidance and monitoring of experienced obstetricians.

Reason 4: Poor immune system function

A pregnant woman's body should be an ideal incubator, a warm and nutritious place, where safety is the most important thing. However, if the mother has an immune system disorder, the antibiotics that help the mother fight viruses will be transmitted to the fetus and kill the growing creature. Experts differ on the possibility that a poorly functioning immune system can cause miscarriage. Many doctors believe that less than 5% of recurrent miscarriages are due to immune system problems.
