What is menopause?

Menopause is also called menopausal syndrome, which refers to a series of symptoms that women experience before and after menopause. It is due to some changes caused by the decrease of sex hormones. Women at this time often experience symptoms such as hot flashes and palpitations. They are also prone to become more impetuous in terms of psychological emotions, sometimes talking too much and being overly sensitive to things. During menopause, you must pay attention to conditioning to avoid causing harm to some diseases.

Natural menopause refers to the exhaustion of ovarian follicles, or the loss of response of the remaining follicles to gonadotropins. The follicles no longer develop and secrete estrogen, and cannot stimulate the growth of the endometrium, leading to menopause. Artificial menopause refers to surgical removal of both ovaries or other methods of stopping ovarian function, such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Removal of the hyster alone while retaining one or both ovaries is not considered artificial menopause.

Menopause refers to a period of transition from the decline of gonadal function to its complete loss in women, while menopause simply refers to the cessation of menstruation. There is a stage of gradual ovarian decline before menopause. According to surveys, it is about 2 to 4 years, the length of which varies from person to person, and is called premenopause.

After menopause, ovarian function becomes even lower, but it does not necessarily disappear completely immediately. It usually takes 2 to 3 years, but sometimes it can last up to 6 to 8 years, or even longer. Therefore, menopause is the sum of premenopause, menopause and postmenopause, so some scholars call it "perimenopause".

Generally speaking, postmenopausal women experience the following four symptoms during menopause:

1. Hot flashes are a common symptom experienced by menopausal women.

2. Palpitations, also known as heart palpitations, are also one of the most common symptoms of menopause.

3. Abnormal mental and neurological symptoms.

4. Back pain is an early symptom of osteoporosis in menopausal women.

Traditional Chinese medicine classifies it as "dirty and irritable". Treatment should focus on tonifying the spleen and kidney, regulating Chong and Ren meridians, while also soothing the liver, regulating emotions, controlling desires, arranging appropriate work and rest, and being careful in daily life to complement the treatment. Dietary treatment that focuses on nourishing the heart and spleen, tonifying the kidneys and moistening dryness not only has better results, but also can strengthen the body.
