How to stop breastfeeding and avoid mastitis

The methods of weaning mainly include artificial weaning and natural weaning. Breastfeeding mothers who have been breastfeeding for more than one year or longer can wean normally. If they need to wean in time for some reasons, they must prevent symptoms such as mastitis in breastfeeding mothers. During the weaning period, they should also strengthen good prevention and health care to avoid inflammation caused by poor care.

Generally, it takes between 7 days and half a month for milk to stop flowing. It is recommended that mothers pay attention to observation and prevent mastitis. If the mother's breasts continue to be swollen and painful, it is recommended that she go to the hospital in time and receive treatment under the guidance of a doctor after a clear diagnosis. Pay attention to rest. You can apply hot compress locally or apply a bag of Glauber's salt externally to reduce swelling and relieve pain.

How to stop breastfeeding after weaning

1. Mothers should gradually reduce the number of breastfeeding times from 3 times a day to 2 times or 1 time. Excess milk should not be accumulated in the breasts. It should be squeezed out until the breasts are soft and there is no swelling or pain.

2. Extend the interval between feedings. Gradually increase the interval between each feeding to allow the baby to slowly adapt and the breasts to slowly adapt, thereby slowly reducing the secretion of milk, which is very helpful for weaning.

3. Shorten the single feeding time. Don't feed your baby for too long each time, shorten it gradually. This will reduce the baby's sucking stimulation and naturally reduce milk secretion.

4. Reduce high protein intake. Mothers should pay attention to eating less soup and milk-inducing foods, and must be careful not to eat fish, mutton and other foods rich in protein. Drink less soup and water, especially milk-producing foods such as chicken soup and fish soup. You can eat more leeks, hawthorn, etc. Eating a light diet can help reduce milk secretion.

5. After weaning, you should wear a well-fitting or slightly tight bra. This can not only inhibit the secretion of milk, but also relieve breast pain.

6. For drug treatment, you can drink the water boiled with roasted malt (50 grams of decoction, 3 times a day), or apply Glauber's salt externally (wrap it in a small cloth bag and apply it on the breast, avoiding the nipple and areola), or take drugs such as vitamin B6, ethinyl stilbestrol, and bromocriptine, but you must take them as prescribed by the doctor.

7. If symptoms such as breast lumps, local skin redness, and fever appear during weaning, you should seek medical attention promptly.
