Is induced labor painful?

Is induced labor painful?

Induced labor not only brings physical harm to a woman, but also psychological harm. Especially during the process of induced labor, it is easy to cause damage to the birth canal, which may leave more sequelae in the future, so it is very painful.

1. The birth canal may be damaged during the induction of labor. Due to strong uterine contractions, a small cervical opening and poor elasticity, birth canal damage such as posterior fornix, cervical opening lacerations and vaginal lacerations are often likely to occur during the induction of labor. At this time, the laceration site should be clearly exposed and sutured immediately to achieve the purpose of hemostasis.

2. The fetal position is not clear before induction of labor or the fetus is deformed, such as hydrocephalus, conjoined twins, etc., which hinders the descent of the fetus during delivery, but cannot be delivered from the vagina, eventually leading to uterine rupture. The rupture is mostly in the lower part of the uterus, which is the thinnest after expansion.

3. In addition, if there is a history of abortion perforation, too many abortions, etc., there are old bruises on the uterine wall. When giving birth again, uterine rupture is likely to occur due to strong uterine contractions.

4. The abuse of oxytocin during induction of labor may cause the uterus to contract strongly due to excessive dosage, making it impossible for the cervix to expand, and uterine rupture may also occur.

5. Pregnant women with chronic nephritis

Women with nephritis will have an increased burden on their kidneys after pregnancy, which will aggravate various symptoms and be detrimental to the growth and development of the fetus and the recovery of the mother. In this case, induced labor should be performed as soon as possible to end the pregnancy.

6. Intrauterine fetal death

If a pregnant woman feels that the fetal movement has disappeared and the doctor confirms that the fetus is dead in the uterus, induced labor should be performed immediately to exclude the dead fetus and ensure the safety of the pregnant woman.

7. Pregnant women with severe pregnancy poisoning

The disease occurs in the middle and late stages of pregnancy. The small blood vessels in the pregnant woman's body contract, and she experiences high blood pressure, headaches and dizziness, vomiting, lower limb edema, and protein in the urine. If the condition does not improve after treatment, if the pregnancy continues, she is prone to convulsions (eclampsia) or premature separation of the placenta from the uterine wall, which can cause massive uterine bleeding, and fetal hypoxia (asphyxia) and even the risk of death in the womb. Therefore, in cases of severe preeclampsia, labor should be induced.
