What to do if pregnant women have urticaria

What to do if pregnant women have urticaria

Due to changes in physiological functions during pregnancy, the immune ability of the pregnant woman begins to decline significantly. Some expectant mothers supplement a large amount of high-protein nutritional products, which makes them more likely to develop allergies and urticaria. However, this requires careful attention to good treatment methods.

1. Stay away from allergens. Pregnant women are a special group of people. Only by identifying allergens as early as possible can timely symptomatic treatment and prevention be carried out. Pregnant women can know the cause of their allergies by doing allergen testing, so as to avoid contact, which may cause urticaria or cause recurrence or aggravation of the disease.

2. Skin care. The biggest characteristic of urticaria is itching, and many pregnant women find it unbearable and want to scratch. Not only will this fail to relieve the itching, but it will make the itching worse. This is because scratching will generate heat, the local body temperature will rise, and more histamine will be released, causing allergies. Therefore, pregnant women should not scratch the affected areas of urticaria. You should also avoid applying hot or cold compresses, as these physical factors may also trigger urticaria.

3. Pay attention to your diet. Pregnant women with urticaria should not eat seafood, beef, mutton or other irritating foods, or spicy, raw, cold and other irritating foods. Regardless of whether they are sick or not, these foods are not good for pregnant women and babies and should be avoided. Pregnant women should eat more fresh fruits and vegetables rich in vitamins and alkaline foods, which can enhance the body's immunity.

4. Treat with medication. Many pregnant mothers who have urticaria don’t know whether they should take medicine, fearing that it will affect the fetus. Indeed, pregnant women should not take medicine indiscriminately during pregnancy. Antihistamines are the main drugs used to treat urticaria. Although no adverse effects on pregnant women and fetuses have been found so far, pregnant women should use them with caution and should take them under the guidance of a doctor. Generally speaking, it is best not to use medication within 3 months of pregnancy to avoid increasing the risk of fetal malformations. Moreover, most pregnant women have mild symptoms and can recover on their own.
