What to do if pregnant women have allergic rhinitis

Allergic rhinitis is often caused by contact with allergens. Its symptoms are similar to those of a cold, such as runny nose and frequent sneezing. It not only causes pain to oneself but also affects the development of the fetus. The treatment measures are introduced below.

Allergic rhinitis in pregnant women refers to some women who are usually in good health, but once they become pregnant, they experience increased nasal discharge and nostril blockage. In severe cases, people often breathe through their mouths, which causes dry mouth and tongue and affects their sleep. Once delivery occurs, the symptoms disappear naturally. This type of rhinitis is medically called pregnancy rhinitis, which is what we call allergic rhinitis in pregnant women.

For symptoms of nasal congestion and runny nose, 1% ephedrine solution can be dropped into the nose. However, it cannot be used for a long time, otherwise it will become ineffective and may cause drug-induced rhinitis. If there is purulent nasal discharge, antibiotics can be used. However, it should be noted that pregnant women should not use antibiotics such as streptomycin, gentamicin and kanamycin for a long time as they are harmful to the auditory nerve. If the above treatment is still ineffective, after clearing the nasal secretions, nasal spray can be used to reduce local congestion and edema, thereby alleviating symptoms.

For pregnant women with allergic rhinitis, they can also supplement with vitamin C to enhance immunity. During pregnancy, eating more foods rich in vitamin C and vitamin E, such as vegetables, tomatoes, oranges, red dates, beans, lean meat, milk, eggs, etc., can enhance blood vessel elasticity and improve blood flow to the nasal mucosa; the most important thing is to maintain a happy mood, so that the baby will be healthier.
