What causes areola eczema?

Areola eczema is the same as human skin eczema. Both are allergic skin diseases. The main symptoms usually occur around the nipples. It is common for women who are often allergic. So it is necessary to know what causes areola eczema? So that prevention can be achieved.

Most patients with areola eczema have allergic constitutions, among which breastfeeding mothers are the most common. This is mainly because when mothers are breastfeeding, the baby's sucking causes excessive moisture in the areola, and the unreasonable use of soap induces allergic reactions in the nipples and nearby skin. Some mothers can recover from areola eczema after they stop breastfeeding.

1. Nipple cracking

Due to incorrect breastfeeding methods, the nipples may develop cracks of varying sizes due to dryness, which often cause bleeding and pain. Secondary infection causes nipple redness, swelling and purulent discharge.

2. Eczema erythema

Eczema erythema often appears on the nipples, areola and surrounding skin, with papule-like granules. The surface is covered with a thin layer of scab and scales, often accompanied by erosion, exudation, pain and intense itching.

3. Areola and body ringworm

This is mainly caused by fungal infection, and the main manifestation is the appearance of circular erythema on the surface of the areola, with a circle of bulges around the erythema to form a clear border. If the inflammation in the center of the erythema is reduced, there will be white scales on the surface, and the mother will generally feel obvious itching.

4. Skin abrasion and red spots

This situation mainly occurs in hot seasons and is more likely to occur in obese mothers. Due to the accumulation of sweat and moisture and the friction between the skin in the wrinkled area where the areola touches the abdomen, a clearly-bordered red spot appears. When the inflammation is severe, erosion, exudation and crusting may occur, with itching, burning and pain.
