How to treat vulvar itching and peeling

If the vulva is itchy or even peeling, women need to take timely treatment measures and understand the cause. At the same time, they must pay attention to personal hygiene. They should not scratch the itchy private parts with their hands and avoid cross infection.

1. General treatment

Pay attention to menstrual hygiene, keep the vulva clean and dry, and avoid scratching. Do not wash with hot water and avoid using soap. When there is an infection, potassium permanganate solution can be used for a sitz bath, but local scrubbing is strictly prohibited. Clothing, especially underwear, should be loose and breathable. Avoid alcohol and spicy or allergic foods.

2. Treatment of the cause

Eliminate local or systemic factors that cause itching, such as trichomoniasis, candidal infection, or diabetes. If pubic lice are found, the pubic hair should be shaved and the underwear should be boiled and washed. You can also apply 1% malathion powder or 25%-50% Stemona tincture externally.

3. Symptomatic treatment

① Topical medication: In case of acute inflammation, 1% resolsin plus 1% livanol solution or 3% boric acid solution can be used for wet compresses, and then 40% zinc oxide ointment can be applied topically after washing; for chronic itching, corticosteroid ointment or 2% diphenhydramine ointment can be applied.

② Oral medication: When symptoms are severe, take 4 mg of chlorpheniramine, 25 mg of diphenhydramine or 25 mg of promethazine orally to achieve both sedative and desensitization effects.

Food, clothing, housing and transportation to prevent and treat vulvar itching:

Clothes: Underwear and underwear should be kept clean. Underwear should be soft, loose and wide, preferably made of cotton. Avoid wearing synthetic clothing close to the body.

Food: Pay attention to adjusting gastrointestinal function, preferably light, vitamin-rich fresh vegetables and soy products; avoid irritating foods such as tobacco, alcohol, chili, strong tea, coffee, etc.; keep the bowels open.

Living: Adjust the indoor temperature to 16℃~20℃ and the relative humidity to 30%~40%. When the relative humidity is lower than 20%, the indoor air is too dry and dust and other allergens are likely to fly. Therefore, water should be sprinkled on the ground and a humidifier can be used if conditions permit.

Action: People with sensitive skin should not only reduce their activities appropriately, but also pay attention to not taking a bath too often and the water temperature should not be too high, otherwise the sebum on the skin surface will be washed away, making the skin drier and more prone to itching. After bathing, you can apply some 30% to 50% glycerin on the body surface. In addition, don't scratch when itching occurs to prevent proliferative changes in the epidermal cells, making them rough and thickened. The result is that the more you scratch, the itchier it becomes, forming a vicious circle.
