Do you know what common cervical diseases are there in women?

Cervical disease is caused by various lesions in the cervical area. It is a major problem that women often trouble. So what are the specific cervical diseases? Let’s learn more about it below.

"Cervical erosion"

Cervical erosion is a manifestation of chronic cervicitis, not the erosion we usually understand. When the epidermis of the external os of the cervix falls off and is replaced by another epithelial tissue at the os of the cervix, the new epithelium covering the surface is very thin, and even the blood vessels and red tissue underneath can be seen. It looks like real erosion, so it is called cervical erosion. But in fact, it is not real erosion. It occurs due to childbirth, miscarriage, postpartum infection, surgical operation or mechanical stimulation such as sexual intercourse that damages the cervix and causes infection due to the invasion of pathogens.

"Cervical polyps"

Cervical polyps are a manifestation of chronic cervicitis. There is a layer of mucous membrane on the surface of the cervical canal. Due to the long-term stimulation of chronic inflammation, the cervical canal mucosa continues to proliferate and accumulate, and protrude from the basal layer of the mucosa to the external opening of the cervix, thus forming polyps. The roots of polyps are mostly attached to the cervical canal or the external opening of the cervix. They are generally small, with a diameter of less than 1 cm, and can be single or multiple. There are also larger ones, which can reach several centimeters in diameter and have a pedicle that protrudes outside the cervical os as it grows. If the polyp is small, it will remain in the cervical canal and only appear slightly at the cervical opening. If cervical polyps are not treated, they will gradually grow larger and block the cervical opening. Or if the polyp happens to block the cervical opening, it can cause the cervical opening to narrow or the cervical canal to deform, thereby hindering the normal upward movement of sperm and causing infertility.

"Cervical hypertrophy"

Cervical hypertrophy is a type of chronic cervicitis. Inflammatory changes caused by pathogens infecting the cervical mucosa. The pathogens that cause it include mycoplasma, chlamydia, bacteria, and viruses. Cervical secretions should be examined to confirm the diagnosis. If necessary, a cervical TCT examination can be performed to rule out early cervical cancer. Simple cervical hypertrophy will not affect pregnancy, but severe cervicitis can cause endometritis, salpingo-oophoritis, fallopian tube adhesions and blockage, leading to infertility.

"Leukoplakia of the Cervix"

Cervical leukoplakia refers to a grayish white opaque plaque-like lesion that appears in the vaginal part of the cervix. Most scholars believe that the white spots seen with the naked eye clinically only indicate varying degrees of epithelial hyperplasia. With the in-depth study of cervical precancerous lesions and early cancer and the widespread use of colposcopy, cervical leukoplakia has gradually attracted attention.

Cervical cancer

Cervical cancer refers to a malignant tumor that occurs at the junction of the squamous epithelial cells in the vaginal part of the cervix or transitional zone and the columnar epithelial cells in the endocervical canal. Its morbidity and mortality rate rank first among all malignant tumors suffered by women. Its most common age is 40 to 59 years old, and there are 131,500 new cases discovered in my country each year. Its onset is related to factors such as early marriage, early childbearing, multiple births, cervical erosion, frequent sexual intercourse, smegma and sex hormone imbalance.

"Cervical cyst"

Cervical cyst is a type of chronic cervicitis and a common gynecological disease. Women with cervical cysts will mainly experience increased vaginal discharge, which is mucopurulent. The stimulation of vaginal discharge can cause vulvar itching and burning sensation, and may also experience symptoms such as intermenstrual bleeding and bleeding after sexual intercourse.
