shock! There are so many materials for rhinoplasty!

Everyone loves beauty. Some people whose facial features are congenitally imperfect will try to compensate for them through acquired methods, such as plastic surgery. Plastic surgery is a very popular way to become beautiful nowadays. Plastic surgery can achieve the effect you want. Rhinoplasty is a very common plastic surgery method, but do you know what materials are used for nose plastic surgery?

1. Autologous cartilage

The material is easy to obtain, usually from ear cartilage, nasal septum cartilage, and rib cartilage, and has no effect on the body after removal. The transplanted cartilage can survive by relying on the nutrition provided by tissue fluid. It has no irritating effect on the tissue after implantation and is easy to carve into the required size and shape. It can maintain its original volume and cell morphology for a long time. Therefore, after the operation, the appearance is natural and lifelike, but there is a possibility of absorption and deformation.

2. Autologous fascia

It is hardly absorbed, but it will be compressed, thinned, and reduced in size, and using it alone may require multiple surgeries. Currently, it is mostly used to wrap cartilage or artificial materials, which can reduce cartilage absorption and make the appearance natural with smooth and rounded curves. The earliest autologous fascia tissue used was the fascia lata, but now the superficial temporal fascia is more commonly used, which leaves fewer surgical scars.

3. Solid silica gel

It is currently the most commonly used rhinoplasty material and is a polymer silicate. Although it has certain complications, it has good biocompatibility, stable physical and chemical properties, is non-toxic, non-carcinogenic, non-deformative, low-priced, and autologous tissue cannot grow into it. At present, solid silicone is one of the preferred clinical rhinoplasty materials.

4. Artificial bone materials

It is mainly hydroxyapatite, which is the main inorganic component of human tissue. Therefore, it has good biocompatibility and is non-toxic, non-teratogenic, non-sensitizing and non-carcinogenic. Because of the difficulty in removing it, it is rarely used in clinical practice.

5. Expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE)

It is a polymer of organic fluoride with stable physical and chemical properties, resistance to redox, high temperature, strong acid and alkali, non-toxic, and good compatibility with human tissues. Because there are many micropores in the material, autologous tissue can grow into it. It also has the advantages of good tissue compatibility, low infection rate, and mild rejection reaction. It can be trimmed and shaped at will. It is widely used in clinical practice with good results.

6. Medpor material

High-density polyethylene biomaterial. Cutting and suturing can be performed according to intraoperative needs. Compared with other biological implants, it has the advantages of good tissue compatibility, low infection rate, mild rejection reaction, and can be trimmed and shaped at will. As with e-PTFE, autologous tissue can be grown into it.
