What is mild cervical columnar epithelium ectopia? The answer is here

Cervical columnar epithelium ectopia, which was mistakenly called "cervical erosion" in the past, is a common gynecological disease in life and has a great impact on women's health. So what exactly is cervical columnar epithelium ectopia?

Clinical manifestations of cervical columnar epithelium ectopia

Cervical columnar epithelium ectopia is a normal physiological phenomenon with no special clinical manifestations. Some people may experience contact bleeding, but this is just an individual difference in the cervix, just like some people may bleed from their teeth or mouth when they chew something hard, which is understandable. For cervicitis, if there is an increase in vaginal discharge, yellowing, or an odor, these are manifestations of cervicitis, which are symptoms that occur after an infection occurs on the cervix. Nabothian cyst and cervical hypertrophy are also the result of chronic cervical inflammation.

Treatment of cervical columnar epithelium ectopy

Cervical columnar epithelium ectopia is a normal physiological phenomenon. The world's authoritative textbooks believe that cervical erosion has nothing to do with cervical cancer. Asymptomatic cervical erosion without pathogen infection does not need to be treated, but cervical erosion with symptoms or pathogen infection should be treated.

In the past, it was mistakenly believed that cervical erosion was related to the occurrence of cervical cancer, but current research shows that the occurrence of cervical cancer is related to infection with human papillomavirus (HPV)[3][4]. There is still a lack of direct evidence from large-sample long-term follow-up on whether cervical columnar epithelial ectopia increases HPV infection and the incidence of cervical precancerous lesions/cervical cancer.

Therefore, women should undergo regular screening for cervical diseases to rule out cervical inflammation and cervical precancerous lesions so that they can receive early treatment.
